Measure for Measure!

How do you estimate the width of pavements, or the sizes and depths of potholes in them? With a custom-made measuring device from Pentlands Men’s Shed, of course!

Not quite sure what the ducks are doing though. Maybe trying to decide whether the deep end is suitable for a quick swim?

Crosses for Colinton

Due to the success of the Nativity scene at St Cuthbert’s Paris Church Colinton, the Rev Nicki asked if we could construct a crosses in time for Easter, to be positioned on the grass in front of the Church where the Nativity scene was sitting.

Toybox and Planters

Here’s some more garden furniture that a member has built during the winter: The planters will be placed outside to add a feature in a garden, and the toybox will live in the summer house where it will contain outdoor toys for grandchildren to play with. These items have been designed to be used as additional garden seating for the nice summer days!

Free Book Library

We have been approached by a school PTA with a request to build an enclosure that could hold books to provide a free “library” service, where people could swap or borrow books. This would ideally be located in the grounds of the associated local primary school. The requirements are:

Outdoor storage for books;
Should be enclosed (weatherproof);
Brightly coloured and / or decorated;
Resembling a house if possible;
Clear glass- or plastic-fronted for visibility, if possible. Safety glass or polycarbonate would be ideal;
It should display the words “Free Library” or similar;
Shelved to accommodate a several books of different sizes (dimensions to be agreed).
