Shed member Davy McLuckie wanted to say “thank you” to Colinton Primary School for the support that they gave to his grandson, and it was agreed that planters would be a nice way to acknowledge what they had done. Davy and his fellow members of the Shed constructed and delivered the planters, which were built from recycled pallets, and took the opportunity to get a couple of photos.

In response to a request from Currie Nursery, Alastair “2 Sheds”, with help from other members, has built an architectural masterpiece to house two rabbits. Domino and Woody now have a superb hutch that has been constructed from a big storage box and a host of other components including a dog crate and some bathroom panels. With signs carved by Stewart, the whole installation looks fantastic and we hope that the bunnies enjoy their accommodation.

Jan agreed to take on a project for Balerno Nursery, to build some planters so that the children could learn about planting and growing flowers and vegetables. The job was quite sizeable, and Murray and others helped him to build these impressive, custom-designed items. Jan also engaged Stewart to carve some signs for the Nursery to highlight some of the items in the garden and playground area. We think the results are first class – and so do the leaders and teachers from the Nursery!

When we received a request for help from Murrayburn Primary School to build them a mud kitchen, Alastair “2 Sheds” McKenzie sprung into action and ended up creating a brilliant L-shaped, 2-sink kitchen that would make the average kitchen installer jealous!

We obtained an old modular building to use as our new premises, and while it needed a lot of work, it was delivered to the site on 4 June 2021. With great excitement from all involved, it was swung into place by an expert truck / crane operator, and the real fun started as we refurbished it. This work has taken a while, but we now have a fully functional Shed workshop (with extensions and annexes!) and a first class meeting place for our members.

The Covid Pandemic imposed a huge amount of delay but Pentlands Men’s Shed eventually delivered some long-awaited projects for Currie Primary School. The school provided some wonderful feedback for the work carried out, and you can see the finished results below:

Stewart went along to Currie Playgroup where he sorted a few things out, including removing sharp edges from a gate, fitting a new latch to another gate leading to the main road, and fitting replacement casters with brakes onto a cabinet / bookshelf to make it safer. Nice one Stewart!

Easy? Aye just watch the others do it!
This nativity scene at Colinton Church was constructed and first installed in December 2020 by Geoff, John, and Alister. The components were stored away after the festive season and re-installed by John and Rab at the start of December 2021.
