Youth & Philanthropy Initiative 2022

Three boys from Forrester High School in Edinburgh nominated Pentlands Men’s Shed as their chosen charity in the 2022 YPI (Youth and Philanthropy Initiative) competition. Having spent time meeting several members of the Shed, understanding what we do, and putting together a fantastic presentation, they ended up winning their school’s competition.

The boys will have benefited personally by exploiting this opportunity for personal growth and development, which is a truly worthwhile outcome in isolation. However, the bonus for Pentlands Men’s Shed is that their win will give us a very welcome financial boost.

Over and above the prize money, as part of their preparation for the presentation, the boys also undertook a sponsored 5k run to benefit the Shed, which has raised a further substantial sum of money for us.

All in all, this was a brilliant result by the very impressive trio of Douglas, Findlay, and Yasine, who are welcome at any time to come back and see us. They impressed the Shed members immensely with their positive, friendly attitude and articulate way of expressing themselves across the generations. Well done lads!

The audience were a bit dodgy though…!
Keith had a long discussion with the boys’ teacher.
