Hi
Please find below the draft spec for clearing the ground for our container(s) as mentioned in the shed notes sent earlier. Please give any feedback through website and we will issue a final spec to prospective contractors in due course.

Site excavation and levelling for Pentlands Men’s Shed

SCOPE OF WORK REQUIRED

1. Ground levelling.
Pentlands Men’s Shed require a site to the west side of the Scout Premises at 99 Forthview Crescent to be levelled in one or two benches in order to site a Portacabin or Portacabins on it.

The levelled site will extend some 10m parallel to the existing railing and 7m downslope from this. Posts with yellow tops have been placed to approximately outline the extent and area in question but contractor to verify measurements, which should also include leaving 1m of undisturbed area parallel to the railing. A further 1m from Top of slope to excavated base level should be battered in order to minimise any slope failure during excavation.

If feasible, and bearing in mind ground level access between existing building and site, the prepared ground should be no more than approximately 500mm below the bottom doorstep level of the building exit at the access through the trees. It is hoped that this will give at least 3.5m of level ground from the railing side of the excavation towards the downslope side. If more can be given then it may be possible to site a second container with pillar supports at the downslope side but if these are likely to be too high then the ground should be levelled further beyond the 3.5m width to allow siting of this second container. There will be Men’s Shed On Site supervision to aid in determining what is possible at this stage.

2. Services trench.
In addition to site levelling, we require a services trench to be dug from the left hand (west) side of the existing building steps to the front (existing building side) of the levelled ground in order to place a 50mm duct pipe to carry an electric cable. Depth of this duct to meet regulatory depth and be suitably identified with tape or similar on top before filling in. We estimate 15m of ducting will be required and the trench will have to pass through tree roots and downslope of a drain manhole but it has already been verified that the drain is more than 2m below the ground level/manhole cover. Preference is for smooth bore ducting with a rope inside duct tied off at each end as part of the work and the trench backfilled and compacted to reinstate roadway access to back of existing premises.

3. Site Access.
Access to the site is through a double gate at the side of the existing building and then between the trees where an access passage has already been cut. There is ample room for a small to medium size excavator but contractor to ascertain for himself that site access is suitable for his machinery. To the best of our knowledge there are no services over the ground to be levelled which would be affected by this work and no spoil will be required to be removed from the site.

4. Cost estimate.
Contractor to give estimate for complete works to >>>>>>>>>>>>> at Pentlands Mens Shed. Together with a timescale in which they could undertake and complete the work. It is not anticipated that the work will be of long duration so a single prompt payment from the charity account upon completion would be our preferred method of payment for the work.

There is no ground plan available at this stage but site inspection will be possible by contacting …………………………..and this should be possible at short notice. If contractor requires a plan for estimation purposes then this can be arranged but it is hope that a visual site inspection will suffice for the work required.
