Hi
It’s been a busy week shed wise for some members. John and myself managed to get all three holes drilled for the crosses for the Colinton Church, installed tubes in each with caps to avoid debris falling in then placed the turf back. I hope John can find them again when it comes to putting in the crosses!. The current plan is to install only one cross for this Easter but John has in mind the final plan which is three crosses when we did the groundwork. Keith was correct in that the ground was not too stony, we managed two out of the three with no issues but the last one proved a wee bit trickier but all were installed to a good depth below ground.

Having had the go-ahead from Graham re the ground for our shed Jim and myself then spent an afternoon moving all the pallets off the area, checking measurements and drawing up a spec for a quotation for clearing the ground. We have finalised a draft between ourselves which I will send to all members by separate email so that all are aware of it and we can make comments for a final spec either by return email or comments on the website or zoom. It would be our intention to send this out by email to interested parties sometime next week or the week after but no later than that. If anyone has a contractor they would wish it to go to please give us the details so that we can ensure they are contacted. I would like to have at least three quotations for the work so probably need about five names to ensure a good response. At this stage I would propose that the quotations come back to Jim and myself and we will undertake to sort out the quotes and pass them by the members for contractor agreement and then Lyall would send out a request for the work as per the successful quotation – does this sound in order?

I’ve been in touch with Ali Mac regarding the wee library and noticed that there is a dilapidated chest of drawers lying behind the scout hut. Anyone have any information on it and can it be used as a basis for making a library? I will probably do it as I have just about enough space in my workshop now and hope if the weather holds to get more stuff out this weekend but so far I have not tried to assemble materials etc. and will liaise with Ali M and the person wishing it before trying to work out anything further.

Needless to say I have not got too far with the detail I promised regarding the postponement of the AGM but I have read the revised constitution and made all the changes required in our existing one. SMSA made it easy to identify where we needed to make changes and produced a generic draft which I have downloaded and filled in all the blanks, hopefully correctly. I’ll give it a further check through this weekend and then send it as an email to all members so that they can make comment or just agree to send it to the Charity commissioners. As before it requires a Quorum to agree these changes although we will have to make them in order to continue meeting digitally!! It may also need all trustees to sign again but there are no signatures on the constitution.

The Vaccines do indeed seem to be giving us all some good hope for the future, I would be more confident if they were able to trace more than 60% of air travellers if these variations are going to become a serious issue and travelling abroad is still going to be allowed, or at least the returning part is. Patience is very difficult when there seems to be some light at the end of the tunnel.

Hopefully I’ll see some of you on zoom tomorrow, please give us any comments or suggestions on the ground clearance and contractors as soon as you can and Jim and I will continue to progress that to the next stage.

Cheerio for now, I hope all are still safe and well and managing to have a little variation in your daily routine as the weather improves (slightly).

Best regards, Alister
