Hi

Shed Notes 14th January

Hello all, I may get this out a bit earlier than usual today as I’m sitting typing outside the dentists at Tolcross while my wife has some urgent treatment done which took a wee while to arrange so I was allowed to drive her there and wait (in the car). Was going to go for a wee walk but the rain is a bit heavy for that.
I don’t have much to report today as I’ve been keeping my head down while planning and preparing for our house move which is progressing. The weather is not particularly helpful either, definite need for some sort of spikey footwear over the past week or so! It's a pity the virus is so sure footed we could do with it slipping away but that seems to be a forlorn hope at the moment.
I did not attend the Lothian Men’s Shed Zoom meeting yesterday but John did and it would appear that we are ahead of the curve regarding trying out ways of postponing the AGM so as to make it quorate and I have to tell Tim Green what we are doing so he can pass it on to others. I’ll do that today as well probably. Nice to know that we may be ahead of the curve!
John and myself managed to get all the Colinton Nativity stuff dismantled and stored last Friday afternoon- note to self and Shed Members maybe don’t overengineer the next time you build something that has to be taken apart by us later!! It certainly was not going to fall down in the wind, rain and snow and apparently was much appreciated by all.
The boxes of chocolates have now gone to Pentlands Medical Centre and Erskine Home courtesy of the Mckenzie delivery service and we look forward to getting our Covid vaccines in due course when the rollout gets a bit farther down the line.(Not at all connected with giving them chocolates you understand!!). In Currie it seems to be going well and hopefully we will all manage to avoid Covid until such time as the vaccine roll out reaches us and takes effect. It certainly seems to be becoming more of a challenge to stay within the rules outside your own house despite trying to avoid people so I can see why there is even more of a clamp down on Click and collect to avoid close contact queues. We have had to take advice on our move because while it can still go ahead at the moment it’s difficult to keep distances and requirements between contractors and us for their safety as well as our own. We are using Kerrs and they seem to have a good system which they are refining all the time and have dedicated crews working in pairs with separate vehicles and tasks so all being well we will just keep out of the way and put lots of labels on things as to where we think they are going.! We’re not doing our own main house packing and that is going to be done by another team the day before the actual move.
My Garage conversion to workshop is progressing, awaiting more insulation foil to get the roof completed but the walls are all done and racking and shelving is appearing quite quickly. I have deliberately not tried to populate anything yet because I’ve still got to be a bit more ruthless in my cull of ‘spares and things which may be handy one day’!
I don’t have much else to report, John may give us more detail of the Lothian Meeting on Zoom tomorrow. I’ve got Ian’s contribution for our AGM postponement detail promised until we have our AGM and already have Lyall’s stuff as he copied me in when he sent it to the Charity comisioners so all I’ve got to do now is try and put a short summary of where we were pre lockdown and what we’ve done post Covid until now. It will not be lengthy as my memory is struggling to even remember what day of the week it is just now and the diaries are all at the shed. Each day seeems to be just more of the same, except Fridays of course when we can try and have a Zoom catchup so I hope to meet up with some of you tomorrow morning.
In the meantime stay safe and warm and dry.

Regards
Alister
