Hi

Shed Notes New Year 2021

Hello all, I hope you managed a good and safe New Year and are now settling in to more of the same for some time yet. Currie started Vaccination this week so hopefully by May we will all have had at least one Jab.
Lyall received a Cheque from Baynes the Bakers for £150.00 for the Men’s Shed in his first post of the New Year and has emailed them with thanks.
A wee reminder that I still have three boxes of Chocolates here for distribution to good causes – Maybe one box to Pentlands Medical Centre to help them get more vaccinations done?!
The mince pies and biscuits have gone!
John and myself aim to take down the Colinton Nativity scene and store it at the church on Friday, this will be after our Zoom Meeting. I’m still waiting to get confirmation that the electrics were dismantled today and we are allowed to do it.
On the Shed business front Iain has received sufficient replies to be quorate in postponing the AGM. I will try and give a short account to date of what has been a very strange year incorporating comments from Ian regarding secretary work and Lyall will give a copy of what he has sent to OSCR as his piece plus anything else he may wish to add. We’ll get these on the website probably after discussion with Iain. We do not need to approve or accept anything until the AGM whenever that may be.
Now for 2021, it’s situation normal or worse for the first month or so, hopefully if everyone behaves and they get enough vaccine we will get back to the shed in person sometime in April/May if I’m not too optimistic, up until then it seems that Zoom and What’s App and a weekly newsletter may be all that we can do although I’d really like to start to get some ground cleared and Just put a portacabin on it asap.
There is a Lothian Shed Zoom meeting on Wed. 13th Jan 10-12 and a SMSA Zoom meeting on 21st Jan 10-1300. If you have not got details and want to Zoom in please let me know and I’ll forward the details. For the SMSA one you need to be a member of SMSA as well as Pentlands Men’s Shed.
My house move is proceeding slowly. I’ve got the garage converted to a workshop and insulated and lined but have not moved much equipment yet as I’m afraid I’ll slip and that will put the kibosh on things good and proper. Must be learning some sense in my old age! I followed the What’s App discussion on spikey footwear but the only accident I had when ice climbing was when |I tripped over my crampons so I decided that was not for me either! It’s kind of difficult when you’re back to lone working to be careful but the thought of spreading this awful virus has prevented me from taking up many offers of help which is much appreciated but could have consequences I don’t want.

Best regards, stay safe and well
Alister
