Hi
I’m sure that clearing snow has come to the fore for many shed members this week, I’ve now got half the contents of my old workshop and garden shed under a tarpaulin in the new garden. Fortunately the tarp was put over as the rain started and before the 2’ of snow descended on it. It will be some time before that lot thaws out! The change in the weather also made me do some inside jobs in the house and now the bins are full of yet more stuff and it does not look like they are going to be emptied this week!
For those of you keeping up with the website you will see that there has been a request for another project for a ‘wee library’ for sharing/exchanging books until such time as the library proper opens again. Allister McKillop received the request and has since come back with some ideas for using a chest of drawers and some glass fronts all donated. I’d love to try to do this but just don’t have the time just now although I may give it a go if nobody else wishes to take on the challenge. Have a look on the website and register your interest or suggestions. There should be funding available for fixings or materials not donated. The old telephone box in Balerno has a shelf for a similar exercise and it is well used.
Another bit of good news for the Shed is that the Scouts have finally managed to get the agreement for the land sorted and expect to have it all signed, sealed and delivered by march.so maybe if the lockdown situation continues to improve and the vaccine rollout supplies keep coming we may have a shed by the summer yet.
The new capacitor for my winch is now installed and the winch is working again – even got the up and down directions right first time! Now all I have to do I clear the garage floor to find the cover to the pit again but there’s no rush for that as anything to go in is frozen under the said tarpaulin!.
I’ve ordered the top for my lathe bench from a charity wood recycling place at Broomhouse and Granton. They do second hand scaffolding planks regraded and sorted for planking and can do up to 3m length at 280mm wide so I’ve ordered 4 which should arrive tomorrow, weather permitting. That way I’ll be able to get my bench finished if all goes to plan.
I should be up for the Zoom meeting tomorrow but will break off early as I have to take my wife to the audio clinic in town, that was after taking her for her Covid vaccine today and to St John’s next week for an x-ray or her back which is really frustrating her at the moment as she just can’t get going in the house. But hey we did get all the cardboard boxes back to the movers this week so progress is being made. However the man doing my driveway probably won’t agree as he made great strides last week and now everything is under snow and ice and it may take a wee while to get it back into a workable condition for the final sanding and paving..
Now I’ll go and get this off to the website and hopefully I’ll see some of you on Zoom tomorrow. In the meantime stay safe and well and upright except if you go sledging rather than sliding! I really must get the cross country skis out this weekend.
Cheers for now
