Hi

Hello everyone,
This week has certainly flown past for me at least – a sign of the times when I realise time is flying by when repeat prescriptions are required and I’m sure it was only last month I got my last batch!. Edinburgh is protesting about being ‘targetted’ and not allowed to go down a Covid level but I suspect if things continue as they are we’ll be going up a level before the christmas free for all. For those who are now getting the vaccine it must be a bit worrying because they have to get a second vaccine dose before any immunity kicks in so we’re far from out of the woods yet. I’m still hoping for an easing by Easter and maybe even a socially distanced get together at the shed.
The snowman I built last Thursday is now all but gone just a wee mound of icy snow and the lumps of coal I used for eyes and nose – so still not a very warm air temperature in my back garden
Geoff, John and myself went over to Colinton last Monday and completed the installation of the Nativity Scene. John took some photos and I thought they may have been up on the website by now. I think the minister was going to circulate them around Colinton too. There should by now be a christmas tree and lights to augment the display but I have not been past there to see. Also had a short visit from Ian McPherson while we were there - he came round to sign the return for OSCR so that is now all back with Lyall for processing in due course.
The offer of an old, rusty but serviceable large vice duly materialised and it’s not in bad nick. It’s in my garage just now but I’ll put it over to the shed sometime soon so that it does not get mixed up in the flitting. The person who delivered it reminded me that the Currie and Balerno Rotary small grants funding is still in existence and I said we still had them in mind when it came to getting dust extraction for our shed so that avenue is still open – when we get a shed.
I’ve started putting up shelves etc in cupboards in our new house and doing quite a lot of insulation so that’s going to keep me occupied from now until Christmas – at least. Alastair McKenzie came over today and painted a room for me – very impressive workmanship and streets ahead of anything I could do.
I’m also hoping to get a driveway completed before we move, have someone booked but he’s stymied by the bad weather of the last few weeks on the job he’s on so although he will get started before christmas it’s unlikely he’ll get it dome before January with the holidays etc. There’s also a shortage of the type of block paving I want but he’s hopeful that his supplier has enough – tomorrow will tell. I’m luck in that there is already a drop down on the pavement so I do not need to disrupt any public services or footpaths and don’t have the rigmarole of all of that permissions etc. I also contacted Lothian Building supplies in Tranent this week for OSB – they are the ones who gave us the freebie for the nativity figures so I thought I’d check them out for my own stuff. They were £1 a board cheaper than MKS and free next day delivery in a small pickup which was able to get down the back lane beside my garage so minimal handling involved by driver and myself so I was quite chuffed with that.
Hopefully we will see new member Terry on Zoom tomorrow, he had hoped to join us last Friday but had a bad fall while out and had quite a saga getting home and checked out by paramedics so hopefully all is well with you now Terry, whether you manage Zoom or not.
Until then I’ll say cheerio, stay safe and well.
Alister
