Hi

Shed Notes 5th November
Hello all,
Another week gone by with little change for better or worse regarding Covid so with my glass half full hat on that is good news and lets hope we can get down at least one more level before long to show we are going in the right direction.
I’ve had a bit more information regarding the coop community fund and how it operates. Coop shoppers need to be members and registered online or by phone to give their preference regarding who they wish the coop to give their charity donation to. If you just use your coop card, which I and my wife do without stating a preference then the money you earn for charity is split equally between all of those being sponsored for that year. Therefore it is important to try to get all those shopping at their local coop stores to become members if not already done and then to specify Pentlands Men’s Shed!! I’ll be trying to register our preferences over the next few days and will let you know how I get on. Spread the word - does not just have to be your nearest coop members who can make a preference.
I’ve also heard back from Colinton regarding the Christmas Nativity scene and have received full size templates for working with. I have attached a sketch to this email showing what we have to produce and it is pretty simple and all decoration is being done by others. I’ve asked for 18mm osb or sterling board if possible as the figures are 4’ high and it could be windy. Base will be pallets and 2x2 to roof of stable. I have an old canvas frame tent which will do to cover the stable – I was going to throw it out anyway.
Given present Covid circumstances I’ll make the assembly in my garage and then it will require two (or hopefully three if we are allowed) to assemble it in situ in Colinton. I do not know yet where it is going but will find that out this coming week just to check that space fits with what they want! I’ll also get some idea of timing for installation and use my trailer for transport.
The other great news I have for this week is that I took delivery of a Cheque for £100 from Nether Currie Primary as a donation to the Shed for our work giving them the Playbus, the Planter Seat, Dominoes and for Geoff’s previous efforts in assembling their Reading Shed for them. I’ve passed the cheque on to Lyall and scanned the letter as another attachment to this email so that you can all see it. Nether Currie are eagerly anticipating three more planter seats to make a ‘reading square’ beside the reading shed. Everyone keep their eyes open for decking and I hope Jim still has the plans. A Tepee is also on the wish list I seem to remember. All of course Covid permitting.
Unfortunately I may have to miss out on the Zoom meeting tomorrow morning as we have a software engineer coming to Harlaw Hydro to make adjustments to our control system and I need to be there. We are due to start work at 1000 so unless I hear otherwise tonight and can delay my time up there have a good chat tomorrow and I’ll catch up with you all next week.
Cheers for now, stay safe and well
Alister
