Hi
Shed Notes 8th October

I hope you are managing to stay safe and still managing to get some things done. Maybe Jim has the best idea for social distancing by going up on his roof – are you zooming from on high tomorrow Jim? It does look as though we are far from getting back to a normal and this week I have been out and about much more than I wished I having made a wee personal risk assessment I have scaled back my visits to charity shops, waste recycling and delivering excess house stuff to those who want it as it is pretty scary how many people are still not adhering to the rules, especially on distancing. Even at the recycling the staff were all kitted out with PPE and masks but in the in allocated bay I had there were three cars, I was the only one with a mask on, and there was criss crossing of all parties to get the recycling deposited in the respective bins. I will not be going back there anytime soon and of course I then went on to the charity shops to deposit more (They were fine) and then back home so one can see how easily it spreads. Fortunately I’m still ok and my app has not pinged yet so fingers crossed I’ve got away with it.

The following arrived in my email a couple of days ago, given the activity on our Whats App page then I’m sure that some of you will want to take up the challenge. Apologies if your not a Hearts Supporter!! Let me know if the link does not work and also our own shed would like to hear the stories from any budding authors too!!.

Good afternoon, My name is Kirsty Roebuck and I'm emailing on behalf of Big Hearts Community Trust, the official charity partner of Heart of Midlothian Football Club.

Until March, Big Hearts had been supporting around 100 older people a month through weekly reminiscence groups held at Tynecastle Park Stadium. As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, we've adapted our programme to send 'Memories at Home' packs to around 200 people every two weeks. Packs contain 14 photos with discussion prompts, a letter from Big Hearts and a Big Hearts 'Gazette' with stories and photos contributed by our 'Social Heritage Volunteers'.

We're currently looking for contributions of stories to feature in our Gazette. Stories don't need to include a particularly memorable event, or a big story, they can just be recollections based on a theme (list of themes below). Submitted stories would hopefully feature in our printed resources and may be used to engage with isolated older people or those living with dementia. The themes we're looking for are...

The Animal Kingdom
Christmas
TV in the 1980's and 1990's
Hearts and Scottish Football
Great Britons of our Times
Scotland and the World
Gorgie through the ages
Live shows and entertainment
Back to school

I was wondering if you would be able to pass this on to any of your participants or volunteers who might be interested in contributing? We're looking for 350-word stories from anyone who would like to contribute and see their stories feature in our Gazette.
All details can be found in here and we're happy to answer any questions you or your participants/volunteers might have.
Thanks for your time and best wishes,
Kirsty Roebuck, Projects Officer, Mobile: 07776598419, www.bighearts.org.uk
Another cut and paste follows regarding the Amazon Smile details. Lyall has successfully registered us and Iain has set it up on the website. I’ve checked and it all works. All further comments and ideas to Iain for incorporation as and when he can manage.

Hi Lyall and Alister,
That's the Smile logo and link on the website now: in the right hand column of the page if you are using a computer rather than a mobile phone, or at the foot of the page on a mobile phone. Click on the logo and you are taken to the Amazon Smile webpage.
I suggest that we create a new menu item on the site for Fund-raising, and put the article about Smile into that menu (including the letter that you mention, and the link to Amazon again). Then we can also add any other fund-raising news or appeals that we want into the same area. If you have anything to go there, send it to me. Don't worry too much about the format - I'll deal with that if you send me the words.
Cheers,
Iain

Hi Iain
The email address you created has been successful.
Link to Smile on Amazon for members to use. Please display on the website.
https://smile.amazon.co.uk/ch/SC049747
I've also attached a zip file containing the Amazon banner and further link.
Once linked with our website we can let the membership know and they can ask families and friends to shop via the charity link on the smile app. Alister has a copy of the letter with more details scanned and ready to up load.
Thanks for your assistance.

Lyall
Not a lot more to add this week, I’ve cleared the junk out of my loft but still seem to have an awful lot that is not junk(?!) There must be a limit to what could be useful in the coming years when some of it has been up there for over 30!
You may remember last week I told you about finding an old victorian construction book well today I found a Bowler Hat and a Top H, both in pristine condition and I recall that why I kept these was because these were used by the Head Stonemason (Bowler) and Codntractor (Top Hat) when the toping out ceremony was done on a completed building. Anyone know of a theatre group who may want those?
Finally I had a chat with Graham this week and the Scouts still have not received the signed Lease from the Council but he will keep us informed of any progress. It would be good to get something soon so that we can maybe get a third party in to clear some ground – once we get the pallets out of the way but that is in abeyance for a wee while too.

Regards to all, stay safe and Happy!
