Hi

Shed notes 10th September

Hello again everyone, it’s been a busy week with shed activities for me and sadly it may now begin to tail off for a wee while given the lunchtime news on meeting outside in a maximum of six from only two families. We will have to reschedule to work in pairs as and when if I’m interpreting the rules correctly. In any event Iain is going to set up a Zoom meeting for tomorrow. John and myself may not be able to attend as we have provisionally arranged to go and collect some wood to go to his house and it is the last chance of use of my trailer for a wee while as it is going north again on Saturday if all goes to plan. The fence panels we painted on one side last Friday I turned over today in readiness for possible painting tomorrow if the weather held then came home to hear the latest lockdown news! The weather is not too good either!
For those of you not on Whats App there was a message from Ron today saying he had been involved in a road accident last week and is out of commission plus no wheels. Fortunately Ron is generally fine ( and I’m assuming anyone else is too!) but he thinks the car is a write off as it landed on its roof. Although not his fault till very scary, perhaps even more so when you can do nothing about it. Shed refurbishing projects do not yet involve cars but I am looking for a steering wheel!
I had a good chat with Stewart today as he was out and about for a walk and came round with the last of the carvings he had completed for the Currie Primary. They really are great and I think I’ll try and get the plaques round to the school (after I take photos of them) separate from anything else as they are much too good to be left in the shed until we get other things done. I’ve also got the necessary knowledge to allow us to complete the mud kitchen to his requirements and the screwdriver drill bits for the long screws. It will be a wee while before Stewart is back to his usual self but he’s cheery enough and realises he needs to slow down to walking pace which is exactly what he is doing. Given the present circumstances he has plenty of time to get back to normal without missing much at all.
Iain and myself collected wood for the shed on Wednesday and left it with Lyall who will sort it out into kindling for him for his barbeque and good bits for the shed. This was followed by a visit to the same place by Bill Coleman and myself today as Bill has bought the lathe and accessories which were for sale. As he has still not built his shed the lathe bench which we also took is now at the back of the shed in Currie until it can be moved into a more permanent position. Bill if you have any woodworm fluid a coat on the top boards while it is still in the open air may be prudent as there are some neat little holes in one end but they don’t appear recent!
I’ve also got the additional chairs needed for the playbus for Currie Primary and took wood which I had denailed to the shed because it was my plan to continue any more work at the shed. That may have to change but at the moment I need the garage space for myself! We still need a steering wheel for the bus if anyone has one lying about. I’ve got some of the ‘road wheels’ completed.
On the administrative side I checked the date of being awarded charity status and it is November so we have a bit more time before we need to have an AGM. It should be within 15 months from shed inception according to the SMSA constitution but the charity report is a year from award of status so we’ll go with that and see how the land lies by then. I have not had any adverse comments to my suggestion regarding recompense for ‘work done’ (and all who were out and about at the shed last Friday were in agreement) that we would simply let the receiving party know how much of an outlay we had by way of specially purchased materials or fittings and ask for a donation which reflected that and if they wished to donate more then that would be most acceptable to us. Any donations of monies would go through to Lyall via our bank account and donations of materials from anyone go straight to the shed via members. Members out of pocket would claim via Lyall who is presently charging 0% commission as long as you have a receipt!!
Continuing with my ‘honest broker’ hat Lyall has offered a Paraffin Greenhouse Heater to anyone in the shed if they are interested – contact Lyall if this is the case, it is still at his garage.

Now I’ll try and get this missive into the email system trying to remember the instructions I ‘learnt’ last week but bear with me, there may be some glitches as I still like to think these things are ‘intuitive’ but it seems to means something different with me!
All the best, stay safe and well.
Alister

PS There were a few glitches - windows decided to do an update part way through and I've had to go back to square 1, now an hour later and John and I will not be on Zoom tomorrow as we are picking up wood.
