Hi
This is the last shed notes of the year as the shed is officially closed until Friday 6th January
according to our calendar on the Website. I was not there last Friday having decided to go up north to see the relatives before the year end and because of this I missed the finals of the YPI (see below) and the Shed Concert Party who entertained the folks at the Meeting place. Well done Jan, I’ve seen the video!.
Our kindling sales are going well and they are not only helping our funds but are making inroads into our clearing the site of broken and odd pallets as well as offcuts and timber not suited for anything else. Now that we have a store we will be able to make and bag throughout the year as time and supplies allow and thus hopefully avoid the rush of this year, which is not over yet!
Our congratulations go to Douglas, Findlay and Yasine, the three lads from Forrester’ High School who won the Youth and Philanthropy Initiative (YPI) competition held by the Wood Foundation for pupils of secondary schools. Not only did they win the £3000.00 prize for our shed against a lot of serious competition they also did a sponsored run for us in Inverleith park and raised a further almost £700.00 for us in that too. Keith, Stewart Allister and Rab managed to go to the final held at the school and pictures will appear on the website in due course once all permissions have been obtained. We have had discussion in the shed about a suitable momento for the lads and the consensus seems to be making them a plaque each and/or for the school. Probably a job for Stewart and Lyle with his new laser carver? In addition to that, and not having heard from the boys about what they would like as a thank you from the shed members Allister McKillop has made enquiries about signed football tops both with the families and the Hearts and Hibs clubs (yes the boys cover both camps!!) and that is possible so I’ve asked Allister to make further enquiries regarding costs, sizes etc and I’ll underwrite the cost of this until we get agreement or not regarding some shed funding for this. I feel the boys deserve something for themselves for all the efforts on our behalf and this seems to fit the bill.
A further reminder that the personal SMSA petition letter to Gordon Macdonald our MSP has resulted in Gordon wishing to come to the shed and learn more about us. Iain has arranged this for Friday 20th January within the shed time. I wonder if we should get the three lads back to speak to him?

Regards to all, I may see some of you before the New Year but in the meantime have a Merry Christmas and a Good New Year when it arrives.
