Hi
Another busy week at the shed with our first ‘winter talk’ last Friday which went down well and Iain has posted the substance of the talk on the website for those of us who were not able to attend, thanks Iain. Allister, Stewart and myself missed the talk because we went to an open day at a refurbished day care centre at Canalside. That also was interesting and a few more contacts made for future funding avenues and ideas for funding.
On Monday Stewart and myself were out and about with the trailer and got a lot of good lengths of timber and five good pallets which will be better ones than we had for the school fence. I’d also got two interior doors from my neighbour which were put into the trailer for the shed before I left home. The pallets are now stacked at the side ready for some painting before they go to the school. I have asked if we can take the fence parts to the school on Friday 21st pm and work on them there until it is finished. That weekend and the Monday are school holidays so I was hoping, with a bit of help, we could maybe get it done and dusted during that period – if we get permission.
Jim and Jan continued with the slabbing and we now have connection from shed to store! A few more slabs and we’ll be able to see how the ramp fits and I’ve ordered up some nuts and bolts for that which will arrive in due course I hope. Busy bee Stewart has also managed to secure a supply of quality and free storage boxes and he and Alastair fitted shelves under our benches on Wednesday to take same using the two doors delivered earlier.. All is looking good and there are enough left to do the same in our cupboards indoors. I’ve also used some to put kindling slabs in just now and on wednesday cut all the pallets which were in the store, plus a few more from outside so there are now plenty supplies for making a few bags of kindling each Friday then we can advertise without a panic of running out.
Christmas orders for small trees, baubles on stands, santas, and combination ornaments are all coming in which gives us an idea of what people may want. All are of simple design and can be made at the shed by many of us. Prototypes are available plus the direction of those who made the prototypes – if they can remember how they did them!
On wednesday I took all of the non-ferrous scrap which we have been accumulating at the shed to the scrappie and it totalled £99.00 so please keep the odd bits and pieces coming as it all adds up, especially as we can now store it safely until disposed of. My expenses for the store lights etc. minus the scrap receipts details are in the pipeline Lyall – honest I’m just letting you recover from your shingles first – hope that is going ok. Other members also make sure they get any invoices/donations into Lyall asap so that he can square of his accountsa for the Charity Comissioners.
I’ll be at the shed for a while tomorrow then back home to prepare for a trip to London with Mary who is taking part in a medical research programme there for two daysnext week, railways permitting. I get an all expenses paid trip to accompany her – at least travel wise. Allister and Scott will be redoing their wee question and answer session on video for the Forrester Schoolboys on Friday so will require someone to video it for them, I don’t think they wish the rest of us to be in the picture but feel free.

Regards to all, take care
Alister
