Hi
Hello again,
Apologies to Stewart for not knowing that he had repaired the chairs that I thought that I had glue for! It’s difficult to keep up with all that’s going on even if it is just one week you miss! Last Friday I did manage to catch up and we had the usual chat, did some more slabbing and tidying up and also had some tea. I’m going to ask that we try and confine the tea and cups to the hall and kitchen or at least order up and pay for at the same time as signing in which needs to be in the hall as there is too much going on in and around the shed. If cups are taken out don't rely on someone else to take then=m back and wash them unless we have a rota for that.
On Saturday last Hugh and Stewart set up a stand in the community Centre for the shed and it generated quite a lot of interest. Stewart took some of his signs and models and I took a few of my turnings. We had no takers for paint and no interest in firewood but there’s £10.00 into the kitty from some of the turnings so all was not lost.
Rab has reported in from the middle of a hurricane in the Americas, hope you have survived Rab!. Lyall was sunning himself in Malta and Jack meanwhile was in the balmy resort of the Port of Leith on a static cruise. Looked good Jack, I didn’t realise Ocean Mist was still floating! I hosted an international meeting of the Ocean Drilling Programme on it many years ago and it was fantastic, especially as I was not paying but had a free hand in arranging the party with the only instruction ‘make sure we get the contract’ we did!
There was no meeting on Monday but Stewart, Iain and myself had a good morning on Tuesday cladding the spaces below the store – all ready for painting now Alistair! We also had yet another discussion on paints and following on from the lack of interest on Saturday which was maybe just as well (we don’t know what we’ve got, how much of each etc. etc. and whether we can sell it!). The following plan has been set out for tomorrow. Stewart has ascertained from the donor that we can sell it and is making up a dummy spreadsheet which we will populate with what we have and then advertise it for one week only. If no interest then we’ll put all the opened tins into one big batch for undercoat and scrap the tins thereby at least reducing the space it is taking up at present. If this inventory works then we also have a prototype for doing the same with our tools and finally, maybe, find out what we have. Volunteers for that? I’m sure if the weather holds the slabbers will be doing their thing again and I was hoping to get some more skirting around the shed done but I don’t think I’ll be up to anything other than supervising or maybe getting some more of the gates done as I had my Covid and Flu jabs yesterday and have a very sore arm and feeling pretty wabbit today. I think half of Currie must have been there yesterday, Saw a few Currie folk I knew and spotted Lyall in the Queue as I was leaving.
Today a few have been busy giving Keith advice on what’s app re a fridge freezer, hope you get that sorted Keith, this is what we are all about – helping each other. Iain has had an enquiry which is interesting, engaging, and could, at the end of the day generate some money for us – part of a Schools project details below.
“Hello, My name is Douglas Reeve and I’m from Forrester high school based in Edinburgh.Me and a couple of my classmates are doing YPI. If you don’t know what YPI is, it is when all 3rd years in your school have to battle it out with presentations to win £3000 for a chosen charity and we would like to choose your charity if possible”
Have a look on the internet for YPI and discuss tomorrow, Iain has this in hand. Also do we wish to sign up as a group to the Plastic free Currie Campaign? It is a nationwide group trying to reduce the use of single use plastics. As individuals I’m sure we do a lot at present and this is purely an attempt to get organisations on board so that they have a wide scope of interest to show funding bodies who may help take this forward. We have also been offered a talk on it and I’ll be passing that to Iain. This also came out of the last Saturday Greener Currie meeting.
I think that’s all for this week, Regards to all, take care and I’ll see some of you tomorrow!

Best Regards,

Alister Skinner
