Hi

Last Friday's meeting started with tea and chat to plan the way forward. It was well focussed and Iain has put all the notes on the website. Many thanks Iain for chairing this and putting it to the screen for us all to read. By way of a thank you scones and cream arrived courtesy of the lady across the road who had some front garden work done by us .Work then continued with unloading the ramp from Keith’s into the store and then emptying items from the shed into the store while work carried on slabbing. Monday saw a fantastic turnout and progress was made on the slabbing, tidying up and lighting for the store. New cable installed underground, 13A socket put in place and two LED lights installed along one side. On Monday afternoon Rab and myself cut a lot of wood planks to the size for the gates for the school. Unfortunately rain stopped play before we got enough cut but enough to clad one gate are now ready once they get the wee curve at the top done. Alastair is going to paint them when they are assembled and before the hinge fittings are on – probably won’t do that until at the school to get it right!
On Tuesday Alastair and myself started to put the flashband on the soffit edge of the roof and again rain stopped play but we managed to get a lot done and hopefully will be able to finish it tomorrow and run the heat gun over it all to bed it all in.
Tomorrow we will start at 10 sharp with coffee and an informal meeting with Tim Green the Development Officer for the Scottish Men’s shed Association. Tim was instrumental in helping us get off the ground so it will be good to meet up with him.
As last week we will then get on with whatever else we wish to do and keep talking and showing Tim outside if needs be.
Main topics for tomorrow, work wise are
How many more large slabs we require?
How many small paving bricks we need to keep for the front triangle before they all disappear under the slabs (plus 10%)
If possible get the remainder of the wood slabs cut for the gates.
I will also be taking some cut and fitted on one end, suction tubes for each of the tools we wish to have an extractor on and Rab is going to position the holes on the workbench for them to come through when in use. We used the extraction system on the gate wood and it was superb. Maybe tomorrow we should get it set up again and take a photo of it all in use which we can then send to the community chest which gave us the award as a thank you and a reminder for the next time we ask for some funding?
That’s it for this week, a wee reminder to you all to still take care as Covid is still around and Ron will not be there tomorrow as he’s just reported in that his wife has tested positive so it’s still around and about. I hope to see as many of you as possible tomorrow so that we can show Tim a good turnout and then I’m going to disappear for at least a week for some time up north – weather is changing already!
