Hi

Shed notes 18th August
Yet another busy week both at shed and at home for myself and others too I'm sure even if they are on holiday!.
But let's start with a nice touch of what the shed is all about - musical interlude last Friday as John investigated issues with Jan's accordian electronics - works fine without the bits of wire Jan so even if John can't fix it (I'm sure he will) then we can still have a ceilidh at good volume without it. good thing was it was taken apart, bits removed and then put together again and it still worked. Brilliant! Robert also did a lot of strimming at the road side of the shed and store making it very presentable indeed. Once the millenium tree arrives it will be going up on that grassy triangle amnd we can sort of envisage better now what it will all look like.
On Monday a flurry of work, not all planned was done at the shed and by that time that teree arrives we will have the bags of sand and gravel away. They are disappearing fast as Jim and Jan plus helpers get on with the laying of the slabs. A new drain is now installed in front of the store doors and drains the water away downslope without erosion so with drain and electric cable now in final positions laying of slabs can continue as and when. The store doors now open much more easily thanks to a liberal dose of motorcycle chain lubricant supplied by Brian on Monday and immediately applied. Thanks Brian and there is still some left for you.
On Tuesday Rab and myself went to Keiths and dismantled the ramp at his front door and loaded it into my trailer. It will be taken in trailer to shed tomorrow and after our hall meeting first thing will be unloaded into the store for future work. I also reinstated the original railings at Keith’s door so that he does not fall going in or out. Fortunately the original railings were cut and raised leaving the old footing still in place below the new ramp so it was an easy case of spigoting the two tubes together and rawlbolting to the wall in the original two holes each side and the job was done.
Iain has asked for a short meeting tomorrow and has sent out an email about it, I’ve relisted the topics here and we need agreement and timings on these items so that we proceed according to our AGM and in an orderly fashion without stressing out anyone. So it’s 10.00 am in the hall to discuss and agree a way forward on the following. Iain will chair and the email which went out to all says:-.

Hi,
We would like to arrange for a meeting of all available members of Pentlands Men's Shed this Friday, starting at 10.00, to discuss a few topics that have either arisen recently, or that have been carried over from the AGM that took place in June. Please attend if you are at all able to do so, as we need as much input as possible to help to move the Shed forward.
Topics include:
  • Dates for the Diary
  • Shed Open Week (Publicity / membership event)
  • Fund Raising
  • Project Coordination
  • Other activities
The hope is to get this over by 11.00 - in other words we don't want it to take up the whole morning - so if we start sharp we should still have time for more "normal" activities.
Thanks,
Iain

And the first normal activity will be unloading the trailer into the store as carrying it will have to go across all the other work areas.

That’s it for this week, take care and I hope to see as many of you as possible tomorrow,
Regards
Alister
