Hi

Not much to write about this week I'm afraid...

LOTHIAN MEN'S SHEDS NETWORK
Jim Floyd and I attended today's meeting in Corstorphine where several issues were discussed. Present were reps from Livingston, Queensferry, Leith, ourselves and chairing the meeting was Tim Green from the SMSA. The meeting had 4 themes:
  1. Sustainability
  2. Funding
  3. Raising profile
  4. Vandalism/Security
To paraphrase everything, our shed is doing very well.
  • We recycle, repurpose and add value with scrap.
  • We have been, and continue to be, successful in raising funds for the Shed.
  • We have no real requirement to raise our profile because we are able to attract members by word of mouth, and via our website which is also successful.
  • And we are in a fortunate position of having the Scouts as our landlords, and an on-site electrician (Grant the Scout Leader) who is willing to install CCTV for us.
The other sheds have varying degrees of success with the 4 themes. Some are good at fund raising, other sheds have only recently got their own premises, and one shed may have to move in the not too distant future. We were shown round their workshop which is limited to 4 persons maximum at a time due to health and safety concerns.

KINDLING
The nights are definitely getting cooler so another good effort from the kindling squad will not go amiss tomorrow!!!!

MEN'S SHED OF THE YEAR 2023
Applications have to be in by the middle of September, so once Bill Roberts has checked for grammatical and spelling errors, we'll submit it. Allister McKillop prepared the draft.

PLANTERS
I delivered two pallet planters to Curry Primary School Nursery today. I had previously sanded them down and lined them. John Wilson, David McLuckie, Murdo McEwan, Lyall Downie and I put them together. The nursery staff are getting the children to paint them and that's when we'll have the photographs taken.

I'm sure I've missed a few things out this week, but I'm writing this while babysitting 3 grandchildren and 2 dogs!!! Life just gets better and better!!!!

Hope I survive and I'll see you all tomorrow.

Best Regards,

Rab Mason
