Hi

This week's newsletter is a composite of bits and pieces from a variety of people - so it's a bit like the Shed. Lots of good input and everyone brings something to make the sum of the parts greater than the whole thing.

Unfortunately, the first item to report on relates to a break-in at the Shed. Apart from a broken lock no damage or theft has been identified at present. We will report this to the Police, and similarly any future similar incidents. The Scouts have also had issues, possibly involving the same people, and we must ensure that any actions that we take to increase our security are coordinated with them. This is a topic for serious discussion on Friday at the Shed, recognising that members will all have different views of what we could and should do to protect our property - and it may be relevant to ask the Police crime prevention or community policing team for advice. In parallel we will also need to consider whether we are adequately insured for contents and reinstatement in the event that we have a major incident.

On a more positive note we have been awarded an unexpected and sizable donation from St Cuthbert's Church, where we have built a nativity scene and erected Easter crosses for the past couple of years. The Reverend Nicky wants to come along to the Shed either this Friday or next Friday to make the donation in person and see what we do, and get some photos for the church magazine. Please come along if you can - the more the merrier!

Alastair 2 Sheds and his helpers have now finished the rabbit hutch that he has been building and now plans to deliver it to the nursery tomorrow (Friday) - so Friday could be quite a busy day! It is a very impressive piece of engineering and I hope the rabbits will appreciate the amount of care and attention to detail that has gone into it.

We continue to be offered donations of materials and tools. A group of Shed members helped to clear a load of timber from a house, and we have been thanked for both taking the wood away, and also for leaving the remaining unwanted timber neatly piled up. Well done to the team! We have also been offered a few gardening tools so I have accepted on our behalf on the proviso that we can do what we want with them - including recycling them if that is the best option.

On the admin side, I will shortly send out the papers for the AGM that will take place on 30 June. Please try to be there if you can - the AGM does matter and there will be important topics to discuss.

So as you can see it has been a mixed week for the Shed. I still sense that it is a source of enjoyment and fun for many of our members, and I do believe it provides valuable support for those who need it. Let's stay positive and make the best of that we have.

On a personal note, as of last Sunday I am now officially an OAP so I look forward to receiving my state pension in due course. I wonder what I will do with my new-found wealth...? Or what will my better half do with it...?
Best Regards,
