Hi

Tomorrow at the shed we are going to have our First Aid Training, Iain has been reminding us via the what’s app and we have a list of shedders ready and willing to be dealt with! As I understand it no treatment will be provided so no point in complaining of aches and pains in this session!
Following the successful F4B breakfast meeting to which Stewart and Ron were invited and received a cheque for £300 on behalf of the shed (details on the website) Iain has now prepared an application for funding from them which is currently going the rounds of the trustees and may be presented on Friday to members if we have time. Basically, as most of you know, we intend to help the scouts with their ongoing electric costs and by this application we state how much we are going to give for infrastructure (not paying bills) and ask them to provide the same amount so the leverage, which is the important part of applications like this would allow us to double the donation to the scouts. Well done to Ron and Stewart for this lead in, they must have impressed and are obviously 'morning people'.
Last Friday at the shed we had a bit of a clear out and all the bulk and messy scrap except aluminium went away. We’ll rationalise the storage for the scrap and try to keep it tidy from now on still keeping ‘good’ stuff inside for reuse or recycling as appropriate.
During the tidy up we discovered we have two pressure washers, both working. We don’t need two and do not have space to store extra items. One has more accessories than the other so if we keep that one then one is available for anyone else who may want it for a small donation to the shed. Failing that I may put it on gumtree as a donation for the shed but I’ve had no success with the loft ladder which will be consigned to the aluminium scrap in due course. Currently the ladder is also in my workshop, maybe try facebook marketplace but they tend to be giveways or have I got that wrong? It has scrap value. We had a discussion re chainsaws as Murdo had one offered to him. The shed already have an electric chain saw which I’ve fettled up but is also still in my workshop pending how we store it/who uses it etc etc. Consensus was we don’t need two and an electric one is easier to maintain as no fuel and two stroke oil is required. The reason that is still in my workshop is because this is a dangerous tool in any hands and needs specialised protective clothing and headgear if we were to use it on a shed basis and although I have (some) of this for my own use with my own saw that would not cover other members. We need to have a discussion on this. I’m happy, as I’m sure others who have chainsaws are, to show how a chainsaw is used and maintained and store one in the shed for member use once they have been shown how to use it but it cannot be left on a shelf for anyone to use. Over to members for discussion.
My scaffolders at the house have been and gone leaving a nice platform which I’ve used to clean the roof of moss etc. before the solar panel people arrive next Tuesday. I’ve also got a pull through ready from outside under the floor to the new fuse box and over the weekend will be putting a strengthening pad down on the loft floor to take 100kg of 2 x 50kg 5.2kw battery packs - Yes I’ve checked they will fit through the loft hatch but I won’t be lifting them up there! When I went to put a hole through from the loft gable to take the cables from the roof in and the ones to the fuse box out I discovered that the old water tank overflow pipe was still in place through the gable so a quick replacement of the old bit of plastic pipe with a new one and I'm all set for the cables to run outside the house from the roof and loft to ground level the way I want them.
That’s it for this week, I hope all are well and enjoying the good weather days when they come and I look forward to seeing some of you again tomorrow.
Best regards
Alister
