Hi

Thanks to Iain for writing the notes last week, I’m looking forward to seeing the progress which has been made in the new shed, had a wee peek through the window on my return earlier in the week and things look to be really coming on. While I’ve been up north I’ve started another project up there but I’m hoping that I can get most of it done by local workmen (to there) as it involves putting in a new multifuel stove with back boiler so that Mary and I can be warm and cosy this winter when we go up there! I’ve cleaned the chimney and taken out the old fire and back boiler with the help of my brother, ordered up and had delivered a new stove and all installation parts from Cromarty (just managed to get in before a 20% price hike) and arranged for installation hopefully in a couple of weeks time followed by nephew coming in to do the plumbing. Lots of favours being called in! After that there will have to be complete redecoration of the living room. I stripped all the wallpaper when I was up last week so a start has been made on that but I don’t intend to do it all myself. Two sheds is a bit far away too but when I get a chance to speak to him we may have another project that I’d like him to lead and which we can discuss tomorrow. Iain mentioned the backlog of work we still have to do for the schools and I’ve been trying to remember it all. Despite my efforts to date I have still not been able to get another steering wheel for the currie primary playbus so if anyone has one at the back of their garage or knows someone who may have something to suit please follow it up or let me know so that I can. I’ve tried various scrappies here and up north to no avail, seems as though scrap cars now get folded up into a cube without salvaging parts but I’m sure there’s somewhere that has more enterprise than that. The Defibrillator has arrived and is in my house, I’ll take it along tomorrow so that others can see it and we can discuss with the scouts where it should be sited in due course. Total cost is £126.60 and Bill has offered to put £50.00 towards it and I’m more than happy to put in the balance. However, if others would also wish to make a contribution then we will put it into shed funds as by the time the new shed is completed and paid for we will need all the donations we can get! And there are ongoing charges for the defibrillator but only if it is used as the pads are one time pads and the batteries have a 6hr life of shocking someone. I would hope that we don’t need to use it in earnest but it's nice to know it is there for users of the hall if required. I’ll also try to remember to take a list tomorrow of items we still have to make/do to complete promises made last year before Covid started. This will also clear away a lot of pallets for the Currie Primary fence after they are repainted, plus a playbus when I get another steering wheel, the ‘wee library’ and I think there’s some more things too. Completing those will also add to the coffers as material costs and donations have been promised for those items. We should also discuss if it is safe for us to start up the kitchen again for tea breaks in the next week or so.
That’s it for now, I’m looking forward to hearing about your experiences of dealing with the additional freedoms we may or may not have since last week. I’m still very cautious as I know others are but so far I’m suitably reassured but what I’ve seen in my limited visits to shops and cafes but I have not been nightclubbing so will rely on others to tell me all about that!
Regards to all
Alister
