Hi
I’m sitting outside up in the sunny north where it is a balmy 20 degrees and just enough wind to make it feel chilly! The first item for you to discuss at the shed tomorrow is who is going to write the shed notes for next week so that I can follow the action for a change instead of being part of it!
Since the last notes some more cleaning to complete it all on the inside of the shed was done and some more slabs laid from the main path down towards the shed and a drain has been installed at the foot of the slope to tie in with the soakaway drain beside it.
The whole of the interior walls have now been treated and should be well ventilated by now so next step will be getting the floor laid. Plywood has been ordered and Stewart is primed to accept the delivery although he’ll need help to get it all under cover until ready to lay it.
I’ve heard from Robertsons at Heriot Watt – seems as though there is a bit of confusion here and Richard, who spoke to Stewart, Geoff and Alastair is apparently not authorised to provide anything new or procure it for us he’s only responsible for ‘giveaways’. I explained that the giveaways were not appropriate for what we are doing at present and he agreed and said that he would have a word with his contracts manager and see what could be provided if anything. Just to push things on I gave him and idea of what we require by way of OSB sheets, Kingspan and plasterboard to see if anything comes of that and I hope to hear next week. The next item we will require will be internal framing and I’ve left that to Geoff to sort out with MKM when he returns and is ready to take delivery. While on the subject of getting things free I had to caution Stewart when speaking to him about the possibility of selling it on if it was something as a shed we no longer needed or did not want. Items such as scaffolding, ladders etc for sale without certification are very dodgy and could lead to prosecution if found to be faulty even if sold with a disclaimer and that is why the scaffolding steps were offered from HW, otherwise they were to be skipped. It is not something Pentlands Men’s Shed which is a charity should be involved in on a routine basis. I’ve not been in the position of selling such items as I’ve given them away in the past rather than get involved in any such issues, or sold them as scrap to the appropriate reclaimers and that could be a possibility for us and they are not then sold with a purpose in mind.
Some of you will have seen the SMSA offer or 'free' defibrilators and I applied immediately because it could not only be good to have for the community it could also be a lifesaver for us who can't seem to slow down and act our age! Hopefully we will hear soon and if we do not get one it is something which should remain on our wish list. Bill has generously agreed to fund part of the refurbishment costs and I will also contribute and if we do need a box to put it in, if we get it, Jim has suggested we build that ourselves.
That’s it for now, I definitely will not be at the shed tomorrow but may give John a ring if I get up in time. Continue to make the most of this great weather, and whatever you are doing keep safe and well so that you continue to enjoy it.
Regards to all
