Hi

Hello all,
On the nightshift with this email as I’ve had a busy day at the shed and then back in my workshop re-purposing bits removed today to go back to shed tomorrow. Geoff has been busy at the shed all week and those of you around tomorrow will see a huge difference already on the internals of the portacabin. Tomorrow, if all goes to plan we will be making a final clean of the inside of the outside walls, stripping the remainder of the lino from the floor and having a chat or two as we also have to agree whether we require an emergency exit as well as a normal using door. All of the top stanchion posts are now cut off courtesy of Stewart and myself and the room inside the scout premises has been tidied up ready for us and the scouts to use again in better fashion. Tomorrow I will fit cover caps to the tops of the stanchions which I made this afternoon in my workshop with material donated to the shed and also take along the cut off pieces of stanchion reconfigured to be additional corner supports for the underside of the portacabin. Jim is also taking along some metal joists which he has ‘surplus to requirements’.
Geoff has also made out a materials list of requirements and we have started to work through it by sourcing supplies or suppliers. To date we have in our possession the vents for the outside walls and the treatment fluid for treating the internals of the external walls and once Geoff stops for a wee while to go on a well earned holiday I hope that the remainder of the internals of the portacabin can be closed off for at least a week while I do the spray treatment and let it all vent and dry. Huge progress has been made and it is great to see us all adding our little bit to the whole.
I thought I’d completed my report for the AGM and Iain has put it on the website for you all to see prior to the AGM. However despite knowing about earlier names I did not know that a lot of time and effort had been put in by the Currie Community Council prior to the inaugural meeting which is when I first appeared on the scene so I have missed all of that out. Apologies to Allister McKillop for that, I’ll rectify it in my report which goes out as the AGM records and take it from this that I now know about this startup contribution to what is now the Pentlands Men’s Shed.
The skip of rubbish was taken away this afternoon and Stewart has a plan to move our grass patch before it knits in to where it is currently placed to the front road side of the portacabin as a start to the landscaping. It will not survive where it is once materials arrive.
The good news on the portacabin front is that all of the external walls are metal and are intact. Geoff has reaffixed all the windows and was working on the door area when I left today. We will not need to do any construction, cladding or structural finishing to these external walls in the short or medium term, if at all. We will however need Alistair two sheds’ expertise in painting to finish the outside and you can have discussions on colours/patterns/ murals or whatever up until the time painting is required!
That’s it for now, hopefully I’ll see some of you tomorrow but if not enjoy whatever you are doing.
Regards to all
Alister
