Hi

Work for the shed continues!
Our research efforts into containers last week came to nothing due to serious pricing issues way beyond our budget, even if nothing needed done to them!
However on Saturday afternoon as I was coming back from the allotment I had a phone call from the contractor who did our ground clearing that there may be a ‘container which would suit us available’ and he gave me contact details. I did this immediately and arranged with Stewart and John to go along with me to the Maybury on Monday to have a look at it.
It is an old 30’ portacabin requiring work done to roof, ceiling and floor to make it wind and watertight but windows are all good, structure is sound and all windows have security screens, so we thought it was good for us if the price was right. Well the guy just wanted it away so we got it for free and I’ve arranged with the same groundworks contractor for uplift and delivery to site in due course, possibly as early as next week.
I’ve got permission from the scouts to have a meeting inside the hall tomorrow so even if the weather is bad please try and come so that we can plan a way forward with this. Serious monies are now involved so we have to instigate the subcommittee arranged away back in the dim and distant past to take over this project.
In order to do this sensibly and with the involvement and input of all members, John Wilson will host a brainstorming of ideas and plans tomorrow which will then be distilled down and acted on in a prudent financial and priority order. We have definite skills and capabilities within the shed, hopefully all encompassed in the subcommittee personnel to lead those tasks but this will be a total shed effort possibly also involving subcontractors if we feel the work is too much for us. Please come and air your thoughts and give us your ideas please. We need a single way forward from here on in or we will not spend our allocated funds wisely.
Also tomorrow we should agree a date for the delayed AGM to be held in the hall having given due notice, agenda etc. I will then feel more comfortable as we start to spend money that we are progressing as a shedload of members and not as one or two individuals who have hopefully been keeping going in the right direction. While those of us who have been doing this are willing and able questions could be asked as to the validity of some decisions. As we are a charity using monies from donations and grants I’m very keen to keep everything above board and decisions made wherever possible by consensus before action is taken. Given that COVID restrictions are easing I’m keen to get this AGM done quickly before we get far into this major project and also just in case the COVID easing does not proceed as well as hoped.
So come rain, hail or shine, if you can, come to the scout hall tomorrow and give your input to our way forward. The usual social distancing measures are still in place so be prepared to shout if you feel that you are not being heard!
Regards to all.
