Hi

I’M A DAY EARLY THIS WEEK SO DON’T RESET YOUR DIARIES!

I’m heading up north tomorrow for a week having made a quick trip over the weekend and found everything to be ok so we can now go for a wee break with no rushing to do things except plant tatties!

Another reason for doing this tonight is just in case the mobile link fails when I get there. There are a few things to report. This early newsletter was prompted by the following email which came in this afternoon and which I did a double take on before responding on behalf of the shed. Apologies now if I have offended anyone but Politicians or their henchmen out for a photo shoot irrespective or unaware of all the issues we have been having and still have due to COVID just do not even appear as real people on my radar.

Hello,
My name is Will and I am writing on behalf of Willie Rennie and the Scottish Liberal Democrat Press Team. On Sunday (2nd May) we are hoping to raise the issue of the importance of support for mental health. We think the Pentlands Men's Shed would be a great way to illustrate this.
I wonder if it would be possible for Willie to come along on Sunday around 11:30? We would hope for a few images of Willie doing some woodwork in the Shed and then he could be interviewed outside for news coverage. This would be an opportunity for some free promotion and in no way an endorsement of the party.
We think the images would great in print media and on TV! Would this be something you would be willing to discuss?
Kind regards,
Will

Hello,
I'm wondering what planet you are on as the Men's shed has now been closed for over a year due to COVID which I'm sure you have heard about. It will not be able to open until we are allowed to work with shared and unsanitised tools so absolutely no to any visits which would have had to go before a committee anyway as we are not affiliated to any other organisation and I could imagine some members may have quite strong views on this, especially as you do not appear to be aware of the regulations we have been under for over a year.

Make of it what you will but it annoyed me intensely hence my rapid and probably ungrammatical response.

It was really good meeting at the back of the shed last Friday, I’m assuming if weather is ok this may happen again this week. I have responded with Lyall’s input to the contractor we have selected for the ground clearance and said we would probably be able to start the work after 6th May but at a time to suit him as well. I have not heard anything back yet and indeed that may come through Lyall as he will be responsible for payment etc and they may now deal directly with him. I’ve said I will continue to liaise with them on the work and I’ve informed Graham of developments.
I don’t have any more this week, had a nice quiet run north and a little more traffic on Monday coming down but still nothing open apart from Bruar which I don’t think closed at all because of the shop. I’m hoping Ralia will be open now but some of the smaller cafes are waiting a weewhile more as they don't have much outside space and the weather is still uncertain. John will testify to that, he looked pretty cold sitting at his table on What's App, Hopefully the coffee afterwards was hot!
The zoom channel will still be open on Friday even if the shed is accepting members. The weather should be good, if cold. I’ll possibly tune in just to see if anyone is there but I hope that you all manage to do your own thing and also stay safe and well wherever you are.
Best regards, Alister
