Hi

A small chink of light towards us managing to meet up ‘behind the shed’ appears to be in the offing soon. It also looks as though I may even get a trip up north very soon if all goes to plan. Mary and I had decided to wait until we got our second vaccine before doing anything but that may dovetail in too as we have the second vaccine next week!
I have had no more responses regarding the requests for a quotation for ground clearing but I’m giving the benefit of the doubt that this could be due to the Easter break. I also have not got a formal quote from the one who responded informally so fingers crossed on that too. Graham has OK’d our plans and we can remove another tree branch if required.
We actually had a ‘day out’ on Tuesday (well at least I did!!) – Mary had two hospital appointments at the Western with not enough time in between to get home and back again but too long to sit in the car so we took a packed lunch and went down to Crammond Village and had a wee walk along the foreshore – first time I saw the sea close up for some time! In the afternoon Mary had a two hour appointment so I went for a walk in Inverleith Park which exhausted me as I went round the perimeter as well as up a few other paths. Came across the Ferranti Bowling and Petanique club – what do you know about that John? There was no one on the bowling green but I’m assuming Petanique is a form of Boules as there were a few throwing small heavy shiny balls about in one of the sandy squares on the other side of the building!
Son and son in Law plus grandaughter came along last weekend and helped me get my solar panels on the workshop roof – very timely as the weather was good with no wind to get them up and fixed all in the one day. I got them wired up the next day and since then they have been performing well due to this brilliant sunshine. Now I have a bit more space in the garden with the frame out of the way and in the workshop with the panels away without damage - Phew!
The wee library is on again as contact has finally been made. Unfortunately illness came into the no contact but I think all is well now. I got round to the school on Wednesday and saw where it is going and what fixings will be required. Given the changing circumstances I’m hoping it can now be a project we can do behind the shed over the next few weeks. There is no deadline on it and with what I have in mind it can be a bit of a hands on project for a few.
The Charity Commissioners have responded asking me to send them the revised version together with a note saying how we arrived at the decision. I’ll get the quorum numbers from Iain but they do not require further Trustee signatures as they have not been changed so that’s another box almost ticked. An invoice came in today for the annual renewal subscription for the SMSA and I’ve passed it on to Lyall for action.
This bit is for Geoff – John mentioned to me that your brother deals in lawnmowers and servicing. I have had donated to the shed two Mountfield mowers (454 and SP454) which are not refurbishable but may be good for spares as some of the plastic bits and one of the grass boxes are still intact. I wanted the wheels just because you never know. The engines are four stroke but I did not try to start them. One has a leaking petrol tank or pipe but all the parts seem to be there. I was going to put the ‘spares’ on gumtree with an offer of any donation to the Shed but if he is interested he gets first dibs!
Like some of the rest of you I get my second vaccine next week so hopefully that goes well and with minimal side effects which will then get me geared up for seeing if the car can still make it to the north!
That’s it for this week, I look forward to having a Zoom with some of you tomorrow, details below if you have not already got them. I hope I’m still recognisable having had a haircut yesterday! In the meantime stay safe and well.
Best regards, Alister
