Hi
Shed duties continued apace since the last notes were sent out and I’m expecting a conversation on zoom tomorrow about what we can and can’t do under present circumstances at the shed. This is partly due to response from the Facebook post which Stewart put up with his video and also my own efforts to get the wee library underway. The concern is can we cope with increased ‘work’ at the moment with no shed open and limited member own space and time and facilities until we can get together again. If we can not do work at the moment then we should not be advertising that we can. I’ve already had to tell the person wanting the wee library that I’ve had to put it on the back burner because I’ve been waiting now for more than two weeks for information on where it is going, size required and fixings required. I can’t see any point in making the wrong thing and then finding it doesn’t fit in with what was expected/anticipated. A bit unfortunate as I had got an excellent bookcase from Bill as the basis for the library but as it is made of MDF and would have to be clad and made weatherproof before going outside,(and I can’t store it inside) I put it over to the shed today for future use. Hugh Thomson came to my house on Tuesday and collected the two small items I had made for him, details are now on the website and Hugh has promised some more photos when he uses them. I could cope with that and also the repair for Lorraine mentioned last week. She asked me if I could repair a Karcher pressure washer which had started leaking after being stored over the winter. The pressure pipe must have had some water in it which froze and cracked the pipe. I managed to locate a spare part and it was fitted and tested over the weekend and collected by Lorraine yesterday. A generous donation has been given to the shed for the repair which I will be passing on to Lyell via our account at the shed tonight together with the £30 we received from Currie Primary by way of a B&Q voucher which I used for stuff for myself in case they stopped honouring their voucher although I could not see any expiry on it.
I sent out six requests for quotations for clearing the shed ground at the beginning of the week and today Jim, Stewart and I went round to show a potential contractor what is required. We await developments on this but a start has been made. I will inform Graham separately that we are going ahead and will keep the scouts informed of any developments. It looks as though we may need to cut another limb of the tree or trees at the entrance as the width is ok but the overhang angle may be too low. I’ll discuss with Graham as we do not want to cut too much away. The back of the premises is very tidy, someone has been busy cutting the grass and getting everything in trim.
I’ve contacted the Charity Commissioners saying we now have an agreed updated constitution but there is no mechanism to send it to them on their web page so I’ve requested information on how to do it and also if they require up to date signatures from the trustees for this revised document. No response to this yet but they did say they are taking a long time to answer question at this point in time.
My own workshop is progressing slowly. I managed to get the floor clear of stuff (By putting it all outside!) and then laid the matting I’d taken with me. Now sorting and stacking the shelves, cupboards and recycling bins! I’ve even been able to see some ground in the garden and the greenhouse is now empty of non-garden items!
I hope you had a Happy and relaxed Easter and are not too fazed by the discussions and details coming out on the Vaccines. I’ll still be getting my 2nd Astra Zennica when they offer it. I had not realised until I started listing to/looking at the research on the topic that similar issues had occurred with the Pfizer one which caused (and possibly still does) anaphalactic shock in some recipients so had to be withdrawn for a couple of weeks while they trained the vaccinators in how to give the antidote before they could continue using it. However again the message was clear – the vaccine is worth having and we will continue to learn of any side effects as the millions get vaccinated.
That’s it for this week, hopefully I’ll see some of you on Zoom tomorrow, details below if you have not already got them. I hope you had an enjoyable Easter Break, I'm looking forward to getting a haircut sometime soon .
Best regards, Alister
