Hi

It’s been a busy week for me, so much so that when Keith phoned today to say that there were now 32 slabs behind his shed waiting for us and that he would no doubt see me on Zoom tomorrow I said 'no you’ll see me on Friday!] Well Friday is indeed tomorrow!
I see from an email from Iain that Hugh Thomson has also joined the Shed, welcome Hugh if this reaches you, my IT skills are not of the best but if Iain has you on the mailing list then this certainly helps me!
After Zoom last week John and I put up the Cross at the Church in Colinton and Iain has put the photos up on the website. On Tuesday I think it was I ‘helped’ Bill clear out the Divan beds he had put on the website plus a bookcase so now have the start of the wee library. Just waiting now to find out where it is going so that I can work out what fixings and height it will require off the ground. Bill was left with more debris than he started but we had a good chat and working at each end of a bed were more or less socially distant. I believe he will be getting in touch with Hugh regarding some more tools for his community projects as he continues coming to grips with his father in law’s property.
I’ve done no more on the quotes for groundwork or the constitution yet. Stewart has given me another contact for the work and when Jim gets back from Cambridge and gets some time to himself we’ll finalise a list for the groundworks and send it out. Regarding the constitution there is a translation problem to be resolved which is not yet apparent to either SMSA or myself but the weather has been too good to be inside trying to sort that out.
I’ve now got a 400l watering collection and distribution system on my greenhouse and managed to clear out some more of the ‘garage overspill’ which was stored in it. Almost ready for planting. I’m also helping this year with my daughter’s allotment in exchange for getting use of a bit of the ground so have set up my 1000 litre IBC tank there complete with Rhones off the shed they already had there so that has also cleared space and bits and pieces from here. Next job is to get to grips with the small petrol rotavator I got in a previous garage clearance for the shed and get it fettled up and trialled at the allotment before handing it over to the shed! The make is Echo and the spares are not easy to come by but I did have an old echo chainsaw and got the ignition part of that to fit but the tines are pretty worn and the only supply I can see for them is in the states (Echo is US) at a pretty hefty price plus duties so I’ll make sure all is working first.
Lyall and I got notice today of a first payment of £145.24 From the Coop Community Fund so, as they say, every little helps. I’ll be interested to see if we get anything from Amazon Smile as I’ve been putting all my Amazon orders through that and it tells me each time I’m supporting Pentlands Men’s shed. For those of you who use amazon but have not registered for the Smile part the main website does not pass on the benefits and so far as I can see there is no difference in what you can order and prices are the same so it must be for accounting and tax purposes – logging in is the same for both Amazon and Amazon smile.
Rain is forecast for the weekend so maybe I’ll be able to start collecting some water and also get back to the inside jobs in workshop and house which have been put on the back burner with the better days for outside. Also hoping that in the next couple of months things will continue to progress regarding some freedom to escape up north for a wee while but that depends on everyone holding their nerve and not having a free for all any time soon!
Time to go for this week, hopefully I’ll see some of you on Zoom tomorrow, details below if you have not already got them and in the meantime stay safe and well.
Best regards, Alister
