Hi

Well summer has really come in with a blast – no need to go abroad to get too much heat and it was nice to pick some nice warm strawberries from the garden. Mary and myself have spent a lot of time this week picking peas, blueberries, broad beans and the like and getting them into the freezer.
Shed wise the week started with a test of endurance for four of us – how to move 20 3x2 slabs before collapsing with heat exhaustion. Sensibly we did it in stages and the last trailer load is still sitting at the shed awaiting unloading tomorrow. That will be one of my jobs tomorrow, the other will be fixing the back light which was not working on the trailer before I take it away again. Thanks to Jan, Hugh and Stewart. Hope you didn't fall asleep at the dentists, afterwards Jan!
Stewart has also sourced more slabs but in a more tricky situation so we have not comitted to taking them at present. At least after Monday’s efforts I now think I’m clear of any longer term effects of COVID as I did not feel more tired than usual after shed activities!
Jan and Jim have also collected wood from a donor who had contacted Iain and they will also be delivering that to the shed tomorrow.
Iain has now received sufficient positive returns regarding the change to the constitution re a quorum to be able to notify OSCR of our revised constitution. The Trustees are happy with the member responses which have allowed this to go forward without further meetings.
I have also had two other pieces of very good shed news this week.
First of all we are to receive a donation of £1400 from the Charity running the Currie Kirk Minibus Fund. Sadly they are winding up the charity and their remaining funds are being divided between local charities who agree to use the funds for the benefit of the Communities around the Church and after discussing this with our Treasurer, Secretary and the other Two Trustees we readily agreed to abide by the terms of the donation and I have signed and returned the documents together with a thank you letter.
Secondly I’ve had an email from Iceland confirming that even if we cannot get a single transport solution to moving the two containers they will pay for a separate lorry with Hiab to transport our container. We are working on both Plan A and B on that one. Any solution is still a few weeks away but getting closer.
Two of Mary’s planned hospital appointments have not happened due to the hospital refusing to do the particular tests as ‘not being appropriate’ when she appeared in person. Apparently telephone consultations are leading to this happening quite frequently so still no getting away from a proper face to face consultation to help tests and diagnosis. Hospital plan B is still awaited so we hope to go up north after this Friday shed meeting for a week or so just to get away from it all for a bit.
Tomorrow I’ll try and sort out a delivery of sand and ballast for the shed after discussion on who may be available to accept delivery and when this can be made – early warning for volunteers last two deliveries were at 8 am with not enough warning for me even to get from my house to the shed before the lorry did.
John is obviously enjoying his break in Berlin, Jim is back from his working cruise and hopefully the rest of you are enjoying some holiday time too. From the forecast the weather may break over the weekend but hopefully there is more sunshine to come or at least some wind free days so that I can get some sea fishing done. Keep us all informed of the goings on so that we can make comment, offer some (?helpful) suggestions or whatever. Looking back over the whats app reminiscences on cars isn’t it good that petrol was a lot cheaper them? Apart from my scooter which probably did the same MPG as my present car the others required at least twice as much fuel and an awful lot of oil.
That’s all for this week, hope to see some of you tomorrow and have a further catch up.
Regards to all
