Hi
Shed notes 19th May
Three reminders to start with this week.
AGM on 17th June, please turn up if you can. Iain will be sending out all the relevant information and indeed has already started to do that. It is important that all members have an opportunity to have their say or agree to what is being done on their behalf so can I please urge you to either come along if you are able or indicate by return to Iain’s email(s) what you, as a voting member, would wish. While attendance at the shed is not mandatory it is helpful to us when applying for funds to be able to (truthfully) say how many members we have and an email track always helps the Trustees demonstrate this.
The cubs will be assembling the Birdboxes on Monday evening 30th May. This Friday and the next we will be preparing for this by checking out equipment and assemblies. On the Monday evening some shed members will be required to assist the cubs and leaders. I have checked and we do not require any safeguarding training or approvals as we will not be alone with any cubs and will always take direction from the leaders.
On the 8th June the trees at the scout hall are getting a makeover so it is best if we are not there when they are working just in case! I have already removed the trailer and cement mixer and they will not be going back. Everything else is ok but we should also tidy up the larch planking to allow their lorry access and also sort out a heavy pallet for the safe and leave it beside the safe for Grant to get a squad organised to get the pallet underneath said safe!.
I had a fantastic couple of days over in the west, weather was mixed but scenery and food was excellent and I managed to get out of Inverary Jail, visited both ends of the Crinan Canal, went over the Atlantic Bridge and did a geological tour of the slate quarries at Easdale and Seil via the Heritage Museum (it was raining at the time!).
Those of you visiting the shed tomorrow will note that the door is now painted a nice charcoal grey courtesy of Alistair and it all matches up very nicely. Those of you watching whats app will also have seen that Iain's boat is now a high gloss racing Blue - Best if you stay upright on the water Iain or have you made the drop keel a contrasting colour?!
We have been asked by a Mrs Wood from Juniper Green if we can do up a garden seat she has which requires new planking on iron sides. She will pay for the wood which will have to be of good quality as she then is going to donate the seat to the village. I’ve said that we would be willing to do this but it would not be possible to entertain it until after June at the earliest when we have somewhere to store other people’s property and keep things dry and secure while we work on them. She is happy with this and I’ll get it on the project list asap Iain!
BGS have started emptying the container we are going to get, there is movement on the equipment going to Iceland in that a price has been agreed so things are moving forward slowly. Still time for us to nibble some more ground away at the container site as Jim is still looking for some spoil for under slabs.
Finally a wee word regarding the kitty for Coffee and tea. As you know we do not charge a membership and pre covid were putting a pound into the kitty on a Friday when we were there. Now that there is the opportunity to leave our flasks behind and go back to tea and a chat we’d like to re-instate this so that the members who supply the raw ingredients are not out of pocket and we hopefully have a balance to put towards our fixed insurance costs now that we have a shed. We will discuss this at the AGM but we do not wish to have a subscription or pay by card etc etc - lets keep it simple and if you don’t have a pound but have a fiver or more just keep your own tally for when to top up the kitty!
That’s it for this week, hope to see some of you tomorrow, stay well and please come to the shed when it suits and if you can’t come in person for any reason send Iain an email via the website and he’ll keep us all in the loop.
Best regards
Alister
