Hi
Shed notes 12th May
From what’s app it seems that quite a few have had another busy week on shed, boating and gardening activities, I come under all three this week so looking forward to a rest and a chat tomorrow!
The scouts have passed on the birdboxes project to the cubs and they are hoping to do that on a Monday night in I think two weeks time but I’ll double check that with Graham before hand. We will need to help them and also do a bit more pre-drilling so I’d like to discuss that tomorrow and also get anyone interested to sign up for the Monday night when the cubs are doing this and then we could have at least three groups working in the shed, room and hall thereby testing out our facilities without overcrowding. I think Graham said 19 cubs so I think we probably have enough kits already waiting together with jigs and screws but we need to check. Graham a quick confirmation of dates and numbers when you have time please!
If we manage to do that not only will it clear another project off our books but will also free up another cupboard in the room for other scout uses and we should have enough sets of tools already sorted from last Friday’s efforts in the initial sorting of tools.
It was just as well I didn’t get on to the mig welder last week as bits were missing and even although I’d ordered and received the required parts it is not working properly and will need to be totally reset and cleaned. My son is confident it will work and I may get him on the case. I therefore had to resort to the tried and trusted stick welder to make the frame for Stewart’s plaque using 1.6mm rods. I’ve got it all tacked together and will take it to the shed tomorrow to see what the Maestro thinks before I do any more – maybe a coat of paint when finished will take it up to Stewart’s standards, otherwise it will have to be buried deep!
Ex colleagues from Iceland came over to BGS this week and are going to put in an offer for the drilling equipment they are disposing off. When this is agreed I’m going to do the shipping work at this end and they have agreed to pay for the moving of our container as part of the deal. Some hoops to go through yet but I’m thinking that we should have it on site by end June unless shipping gets even messier than it is now. There is a route from Hull/Immingham or Scrabster direct to Iceland which does not involve the EU (Aberdeen or Grsangempouth have to go via Rotterdam!) but the Scrabster one has to use the ferry’s trailers which have to be rented for the duration door to door and doesn’t lend to doing a Homer with our container so I’m hoping that their quote rules it out!
That’s my shed bit , Gardening was trying to get stuff out of the greenhouse and hardened off enough to either go to my daughter’s allotment or our own cold frame because Mary and I are going to go away for a couple of days to Portsonachan Sunday-Tuesday and the following week (this is where the boating comes in) I’m going up north with a trailer to take a rib down to Falkirk having agreed a deal this week for it. The Portsonachan trip has been on hold for almost two years but the hotel are keen to honour the booking so here we go, into the west coast weather so hopefully we'll be lucky and get at least one dry day!.
That’s it for this week, hope to see some of you tomorrow, stay well and please come to the shed when it suits.
Best regards
Alister
