Hi

Shed Notes Thursday 31st March

I’m back in snowy and sunny Edinburgh and trying to catch up on a number of fronts. Apart from the funeral we had a great time up north, COVID was rife so we had the excuse to stay away from everyone, got a lot of the garden into shape after two years of neglect and even had a couple of ice creams by the seaside. Lots of loud bangs and helicopters overhead from the Tain Bombing Range with spectacular tracer fire in the dark sky. No prizes as to what they are training for!.
Anyway back to the shed – agreement in principle to site a container at the shed but still to be ratified by the scout committee. Tomorrow I’ll measure distance from railing to west side of proposed site as that is here it will have to go if it is going at all. Scouts not keen for it going beside trees and I think it would be quite a job to site it there in any meaningful way. I inspected the container today, it’s one I used in the Baltic as a stores container in 2013 and has mainly been stored inside at loanhead until it was moved a couple of years ago to Heriot Watt. Apart from a couple of vertical channels on the inside walls near the doors which I had put in to form a wall with battens to hold plastic core liner behind it, it is a ‘clean’ container with wooden floor and vents at top corners. I did not take a photo as it is still full of stuff. Opening doors are good apart from rubber seals at base so I would say this is good for years without any work required regarding weatherproofing or security and we can clad the road facing side with wood at some stage if we need to. Currently painted a dull reddish brown but not rust! Honestly guys this container does not require work on it before we can use it!!! but then again it is not classed as a freebie although it will be to the shed! I’m also negotiating uplift and we need to have the site ready pretty soon as I’m hoping to get a 'back to back' uplift and delivery when other items and another container are going south and that way I can possibly get the transport ‘free’ as part of my renumeration for this job.
I’ve also asked the Currie Primary school re permission and free access to school in holidays to try and get the outstanding items away from the shed, especially the pallet fence – have not heard any more on that yet but if we do not get anything definitive soon I think we have to knock that on the head which would be apity as we’ve put a lot of work into it and another couple of days work would see it installed. I’m hoping to be able to do a bit more work on the playbus tomorrow with help although it will still have to be transported in sections when we can get access. I’ve also now got the angle iron for the doorstep awning cover so will try and find my welder this weekend and get that done ready to start to fit that and get the two remaining sheets out of the way.
If we can get the container sited it will then be an easy job to tidy up a lot of stuff as the aluminium scaffolding will make internal storage racks to take a lot of the keeping wood and there will also be room for the larger tools to be stored in there.
That’s all for this week, I hope to see some of you tomorrow for a wee while and I hope all are well and coping with the new choices we can now all make. Still not sure how we can say we don’t have covid though if we don’t test and if you don’t test you don’t know you need to isolate if positive!. My personal choice includes trying not to give it to others but that does not seem to be in the corporate thinking!
Regards to all,
Alister
