Hi
The plan is for a shed meeting tomorrow, unfortunately I will not be there as I’m at a funeral but Stewart has keys to open up both shed and Scout hut..
Last Monday with help from Jim we managed to get the phase one of the shed step completed and Stewart and I inspected it today and all seems well despite the heavy rain since so it should be ok to dance on it too but just a waltz, leave the concrete to harden for a few weeks yet before the highland fling please!.
I went to the shed with Stewart today and put the notice on the emergency cut out as requested by Graham and also to discuss with Stewart and then via him with your meeting tomorrow on what to do regarding keys and responsibilities for the shed. The scout hut emergency door was left open last Monday evening and a passer by reported it on Tuesday. We were not last in the premises but almost certainly one of us opened the emergency door and did not close it afterwards assuming that whoever was last at the shed would check all doors but the scout premises were still occupied when I left and I was the last shed person there.
We now have a plan which I’d like you to thinks about tomorrow and hopefully implement as suggested or with a similar version. The shed is now secure and Stewart has put a key box into the shed – not positioned yet but there to hold a set of keys for the scout hut and the keys for our filing cabinet and locked cabinets in the room we use with others.
Thus anyone wishing to go to the shed makes sure he has a shed key (there are five of them so that should not be too difficult and that will be the only key we take away). On Fridays when we will be using the scout hut also for our regular wider meeting we will open the side gate and the front door of the scout hut via the keys in the key locker in the shed. If anyone opens the emergency door for direct access then that person must also close it or make it known to the last person locking the shed that the emergency door on the scout hut is not closed. This is probably not too important for the Friday when a shed member is going to be responsible for locking up both premises and putting the Scout hut keys in the shed key safe. It is more important for other days when other parties are using those premises. If we are at the shed outwith Fridays but only using the other premises for access to our cupboards, toilet or tea we should use the front access. Certainly on those days anyone opening the emergency door must close it before they leave.
If Alastair Mckenzie still has the padlock we used for the shed door going spare we could use that for the key safe and have two keys inside the shed for it.
That way we will not be carrying around keys we do not routinely need and when we are doing shed business we still have access to the scout hut as required. I’ve also shown Stewart where the emergency Key for the lights unit beside the door is.
We also visited Keith and sized up the bench – could be some issues guys – may have been better to do this before getting the electrical conduit in however that was not done so you’ll have to work round it. The other bench we were offered two years ago is long gone and I’ve still not heard from Bill Coleman whether we can use his one as a permanent installation in the shed so it cannot be considered a fixture at present. Keith has also some sets of IKEA type wooden shelving uprights, fixings and lots of shelves. It may well be some of the shelves would work for under the benches – Stewart has taken a sample shelf to show you tomorrow.
I’ve sized up the ramp at Keiths door and it can certainly form the basis as one for our step. I’m going to work with Allister McKillop next week to put a bid in to lottery funding for this project and if successful can expand the monies to do other things as we would not require to purchase a complete unit. Looking at the Internet a proper ramp is of the order of £3500 without installation so not cheap whatever way you look at it so a bid for £4k i'm thinking?
Finally we should use some of the many tins of paint in Keith’s garage as a coating on the plywood floor of the shed for the moment and then think where we are going to store the rest if we decide to keep them.
Hopefully see you all a week tomorrow at the shed, regards for now and work out ways to stay save in this brave new Covid aware but don't test or isolate world!.
Alister
