Hi

It was mooted earlier in the week that we may have a zoom meeting tomorrow because of the forecast weather and that’s what I’m planning to do having spent the day today reglazing part of my greenhouse after one of my cold frames blew into it. Said cold frame is now being redesigned and pinned to wall and ground! Details for accessing the zoom meeting are given at the end of these notes for those wishing to join – unless you are too busy building snowpersons!
On Monday a few of us had a very busy morning moving some 40 3x2 slabs plus seat bench, topsoil and some concrete blocks from Wester Hailes to the shed. Thanks to Stewart Alistair, Lyall, Ron, Ali and John and of course to Stewart who arranged it all with Rita.. Plenty stuff now to finish step and for Jim to continue laying slabs without having to search for ones of the correct size. Thanks to all, it’s a good job we managed to do it on the day given the weather window was more or less correct.
Graham and Grant, with help from Jim have completed the electric wiring of the shed and I’m looking forward to seeing it soon. Graham was going to give us a quick tour tomorrow but I think that will be on hold as the weather doesn’t look good even if there is no snow on the ground we would not all be able to congregate in the shed. Many thanks Graham to yourself and Grant for all the hours you put in on this.
Keith has offered the ramppresently going up to his front door as a ramp for the shed and I have accepted but will leave it where it is until both he and ourselves are in a position to remove it and do any reinstatement required. Thank you Keith for this generous offer. Work on the step will allow incorporating it at the shed in due course. It may be prudent soon to also measure the bench Keith is keeping for us in his garage and make sure it fits through our shed door!
Next week if the weather improves I may try and do some more towards completing the step. I will not be at the shed a week tomorrow either as I will be at a funeral that day.
I was talking with Ron while we were transporting the slabs regarding the work we still have to do for Currie Primary and while I had hoped to do it in the school break this week the weather decided me not to even try and arrange it so that’s still in abeyance. Fiona, who was our liaison teacher on this has now left the school and set up a driving school but has said she will still be our contact with the school and janitor to get the job done – one of these days. There are also some jobs to do for the scouts in and around the premises and we can discuss those soon too. They all need some decent weather which hopefully will be coming soon.
It’s nice to see Donald’s efforts on the grassy bank and downslope coming to fruition – the daffies are up and so far have managed to keep upright. They nearly got two bulk bags of sand on top of them but I was able to get the driver to swing them right over and down beside the shed – I would not have been popular if I hadn’t spotted they were coming through as I had forgotten that they were planted way back when things were more normal - at least it shows us life still goes on!.
Nothing more for this week, hopefully everyone is keeping safe and well and able to get out and about when the weather permits. Those of you who helped move the slabs hope your backs have not suffered too much. One day per week of that is more than enough!
Regards to all, for those of you who are able I look forward to seeing you on zoom tomorrow – log in details below.
Best Regards, Alister
