Hi

Another busy week on the shed refurbishment with Alister, Alastair, John, Iain, Stewart, Rab and Jim all contributing. All the rafters which were cut last week are now up and secured in place plus two extra ones I had to go and get today to finish off the pattern we had decided on. The purlins are laid on but not properly fixed yet, the OSB Boards are all cut and the metal roofing sheets are all cut. Just before we finished today we offered up some osb to the corners and it all fitted! Buoyed up by this success we tried a roofing sheet as well and it fitted too - so I’ll sleep easy tonight. Weather permitting we will try and get the boards on tomorrow after fixing the purlins and then that will be that until next week unless the weather looks really good over the weekend and not at the beginning of the week. A five day week is more than enough for us oldies – at least on non domestic projects!
A wee bit of sad news for the shed today. Bing has had to seriously curtail his activities for the foreseeable future on doctors orders and therefore he thought it best to resign from the shed. While we all understand and respect his decision Iain has made it very clear that he is most welcome to rejoin at any time if circumstances allow. We valued what he has done for the shed in the short time he was with us and really hope to see him again in the future.
Tomorrow if the weather allows Stewart has planned a bonfire and tidy up for those of us not working on the roof, it’s getting a bit debris strewn underfoot at present. Neighbours have been warned to keep their windows closed and Stewart has even been thanked for giving them advance notice.
I have also put a half sheet of 6mm plywood into the shed so that all can see what this would look like for lining the inside instead of plasterboard. No decisions have been made and I will do a costing tonight of roughly what we would need by way of plywood sheets bearing in mind that we already have the osb sheet offcuts for the walls under the benches side of the shed..
We will of course have tea as well if someone puts the kettle on!.
That’s it for now, I hope to see some of you tomorrow, thought I'd get this out before tea in case I put my feet up and fall asleep for longer than usual.
Keep well and stay safe.
Best Regards
Alister
