Hi

Hello again,
Another week gone by and it’s a mixed one as far as events in the shed go.
Unfortunately I have to report that Geoff has resigned from the shed for personal reasons and although we have to respect that he will be sorely missed, not just for his expertise but for the way he was able to impart that knowledge to others. Take care Geoff and we hope to see you again in the not too distant future, our door will always be open.
Tomorrow’s meeting will be in the hall and I suspect will be taken up for much of the time with working out the way forward to meet our obligations with things we have already agreed to do, and how we progress with the portacabin build. John, Iain and myself have been to the shed and worked out how we will complete the internal structure build to Geoff’s plan and with all the materials which he has left for us, cut to size, marked and labelled all ready for assembly. It is fortunate that John has been Geoff’s apprentice on this work and feels able to work out what to do to complete this part with help from one or two of us, at a time.
I have a number of proposals which I will pass by you all tomorrow regarding how we meet and what we do bearing in mind that Covid is still ever present and is certainly not improving at the moment. The outcome of tomorrows meeting will then go to the Trustees for ratification.
However one item which we require to implement as from tomorrow is self registration to the meeting (this is a requirement of the Shed and our constitution but we have been lax and this cannot continue) because if someone catches covid we do require to know and notify if other members may have to test or self isolate. Also I’m going to propose tomorrow that on Fridays, our regular meeting day, no work will be done on the portacabin, it’s not ‘out of bounds’ but that day is for our all member meeting and getting on with other projects. More on that tomorrow but think about it please.
The steering wheel for the next bus is under modification. Having got it from Hugh earlier in the week we realised it had an air bag in it – oops! A quick visit to Hope Scott confirmed that there was indeed and air bag in it and it was still active but unlikely to go off if not tampered with! After receiving instructions I tampered with it and removed the airbag package from the wheel and now have to find a Jaguar Dealer who will accept the explosive unit into their wire cage for disposal of such items. Meanwhile the Jaguar steering wheel is becoming a hybrid with a Morgan as I’m making a beechwood centre to fill the gap which now exists. Recycling is always a challenge.
I’m going to close by asking all members to take on board our ethos of trying to make all activities of the shed stress-free and that the shed itself remains a particularly stress-free environment. I don’t think we are doing a bad job but we need to do better for all our sakes.

Regards to all
