Hi

Evening all

BALERNO SCHOOL PARTNERSHIP
We'll be at the school tomorrow. We just need to obtain black and white masonry type paint for the slabs. If anyone has such paint, bring it to the shed please.

PERGOLAS
Being delivered TOMORROW. At time of writing this note I have not yet received the time window, but I will let everyone know via WHATSAPP.

EDINBURGH AIRPORT
Simon Whitehead or Jamie Cutler from the Airport will call at the shed tomorrow to drop off the items they have recently collected from passengers unaware of cabin rules. They have been confiscated from passengers and they look to be in good condition (the items, not the men😀).

SMSA IS LOOKING FOR TRUSTEES
The search for new trustees is on:
The Scottish Men’s Sheds Association (SMSA) - Scotland's leading men's health and wellbeing charity - is looking to strengthen its Board of Trustees and is inviting expressions of interest from passionate, committed individuals who want to help shape the future of Men’s Sheds across Scotland.
This is an opportunity to play a key role in supporting a growing national movement that makes a real difference to men’s health, wellbeing, and community connection in Scotland.

What does the SMSA Board do?

The SMSA Board sets the strategic direction of the charity, helping ensure it remains effective, resilient, and financially sustainable. Trustees support the continued growth of Men’s Sheds and help guide how SMSA serves its members across Scotland.
The Board meets around eight times a year (four board and staff meetings and four trustee-only meetings) online (Zoom) with one personal meeting at the SMSA Gathering & Annual General Meeting (AGM)/Scottish Men's Shed of the Year awards.

What we’re looking for

The SMSA is particularly keen to hear from people in regions such as Edinburgh, Fife, and surrounding areas, as well as others across Scotland who feel they can contribute.
Ideally, SMSA Trustees will:
  • Be a member of a Scottish Men’s Shed
  • Be willing to act as a Shed Ambassador, supporting and promoting the Movement in their region
  • Bring enthusiasm, good judgement, and a commitment to community wellbeing

Special focus: Treasurer role

The SMSA is especially seeking a new Treasurer. Our long-standing current Treasurer plans to step down due to caring responsibilities, and we are keen to find someone with some understanding of accounts or financial oversight.
Importantly, this is not a heavy administrative role. The day-to-day financial work is already supported operationally. The Treasurer’s role is more of an oversight and advisory position, offering a second set of eyes, guidance, and reassurance that financial processes are in good order. In short: you don’t need to “do the books” — just help make sure they’re right.

Why get involved?

The SMSA has ambitious plans for growth and development. Trustees play a vital part in making sure the organisation stays strong, responsive, and able to support Sheds across Scotland.
If you care about the Men’s Shed Movement and want to make a meaningful contribution, this is a rewarding way to do it.

SHED TRAILER
Iain has just commented via WhatsApp that the trailer runs very nicely. Many thanks to Robin Brown for donating it.

MALLENY GARDEN FAYRE
They are looking to finalise plans for their Fayre this year and were hoping we might be able to attend with a view to promoting the work and benefits of the Mens Shed.
They are holding the fayre on Saturday 20th June 2026. 10am – 3pm. and are inviting a variety of local nurseries, associated botanical inspired vendors and local community groups to have a plant focused day. They would be pleased to have us along. This event will take place within the grounds of Malleny Garden during the time when their National Collection of 19th Century shrub roses are in full flower and fragrance. More information about the garden can be found here. Link to their Event page here. (see picture below).
