As I was writing tonight's notes, Nigel emailed me with an exciting request.... see below.
The BBC are doing a series on a couple of celebs going round the country's canal network and are keen to meet with us to see if we are suitable for filming (I exclude Stewart from this as he's not politically correct...😁).
here's the jist of the request...
...As part of the series, we will be filming in Scotland between 29th September and 1st October, and we're keen to meet inspiring local organisations, businesses and community groups that help bring the region's landscapes, heritage and way of life to life for residents and visitors alike.
Having come across Pentlands Men's Shed, we felt your organisation could be a fantastic fit for what we're looking for and wondered whether there might be an opportunity to include the Shed as part of our programme while we are filming in the area. We're particularly interested in organisations that bring people together, foster friendship and wellbeing, and create opportunities for people to share skills, experiences and practical knowledge within their local community.
From what we've seen, Pentlands Men's Shed provides a welcoming space where members can connect, work on projects together and support one another, and we'd love to learn more about the people involved, the activities you undertake, and the positive impact the Shed has on the local area and its members.
In the meantime, a small team of us will be in the area on Friday 4th, Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th September carrying out a recce of our filming locations. If you are available, we'd love the opportunity to meet with you in person, introduce ourselves and learn a little more about the Shed and what might be possible.

PENTLANDS MEN'S SHED ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 2026
It's being held in the Scout Hall on Friday, 9th October at 1100hrs. Agenda items gratefully accepted.
A Balerno resident, Hamish Neilson may visit the Shed tomorrow to see if he could become a member.
It's only 4 months till Christmas and organisations are starting to gear up for it already.
This year the Currie Community Centre Winter Fayre will be held on:
Sunday 29th November 2026 11am–3pm Stallholder set-up from 10am
I've already replied that the Pentlands Men's Shed would like a stall.
Stall fee: £20 The fee remains the same as last year and includes:
- 1 x 6ft table
- 1 x chair
- Refreshment tokens for up to 2 people per stall
We cannot accept any more wood donations. We simply have no room to store it, and Guy Fawkes night is not all that far away either, so we need to be mindful of that as well.
Elaine Edwards from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission visited us last week and gave us a couple of wreaths to modify. They're in the portable building waiting patiently...
Over the 2 scrap runs we made nearly £170. Thanks to all of you for bringing in your unwanted stuff!!! keep up the good work.
The bee hotel that Stewart and Ali 2 Sheds made has been offered to Currie Primary School . Our contact there is Kerry Strange.
Please, please, please remember to tidy up after you and put all tools back to where you got them from. We're currently missing a 13mm socket from the NORMALLY FULL SET that lives in the shed. This will stop John from going ballistic🚀🧨
Jim has been given a deadline of October to finish the build, so that our wood can be stored there and not be visible to passers by.
That's about it for this week folks, stay safe.
