SCOTT ARTHUR MP VISIT ON MONDAY 6TH OCTOBER
A very successful visit by our local MP. Alex behaved himself (well almost!!!) and it looks like he was most impressed by what we are achieving, looking at his Facebook page. There's an article on our web page about it. But in case you don't have access to a computer, here's the gist of it...
Yesterday, I met the retired, but certainly not tired, gentlemen at the Pentland Men’s Shed. Pentland Men’s Shed is a warm and welcoming community space in Edinburgh where men of all ages come together to share skills, build friendships, and enjoy activities like DIY, gardening, and socialising. It’s a place that fosters mental wellbeing, reduces isolation, and encourages creativity through relaxed, informal gatherings held twice weekly. Using scrap materials and spare time, these resourceful men have created a small community project that not only supports their own wellbeing but also serves the wider community. I genuinely doubt any other project in Edinburgh achieves so much with so little.
(We also made it on to the online version of the Edinburgh Evening News!!!!).
Balerno Farmer's Market date is Saturday 13th December. We'll need to be there for around 0830 to get things set up. I'll have more details nearer the time.
The Currie Community Centre Christmas fair is being held on Saturday 30th November. I imagine we will need to provide our own table/stall, just like we did last year. An extension cable would also be a good idea. Once again, when I know more, I'll let you all know.
Funnily enough the SMSA gas just sent us an invitation to hold an OPEN DOORS DAY in 2025. It's being held on the 19th NOVEMBER 2025. That day is a Wednesday. Do we want to have an open day??? Let's talk about it tomorrow.
Barbecue tomorrow morning!! Hopefully Lyall will have returned from his holidays and be in charge of the hot coals once again. His little helpers will be required as usual. We're all looking forward to another successful BBQ!!!
We have agreed to produce 3 direction sign posts for the committee. They will supply the wood and place the finished signs in the ground. We'll do the sign writing and general production. A site visit is scheduled for Friday 17th November at 1030. Stewart Still will lead this project (hopefully!!!!).

SMSA MEN'S SHED OF THE YEAR 2025
Clyde Coast and Cumbraes Men's Shed were 1st. St Andrews Men’s Shed (1st runner-up) and Dalkeith Men’s Shed (2nd runner-up) were second and third respectively. We didn't enter this year as we were more concerned with "getting our own house in order".
Alex is arranging a FREE First Aid workshop to be held at the Shed in the near(ish) future. It lasts about 90 minutes and is run by the British Red Cross. The date isn't finalised yet, but once again, once WE know, we'll let YOU know!!!!

CASINO NIGHT AT THE RUGBY CLUB, IN AID OF EDINBURGH SICK KIDS AND CURRIE AND BALERNO ROTARY CHARITIES.
We have received an invite from the Currie and Balerno Rotary Club - see below
Two years ago, Currie and Balerno Rotary hosted a lively Oktoberfest at the Rugby Club, a fantastic evening enjoyed by everyone who came along.
This year, we’re back with a brand-new event: Casino Night! Join us at the Rugby Club on Thursday, 17th October at 7pm for an evening of fun, games, and entertainment, all while raising money for a great cause.
-
£20 entry includes a bag of chips to play at the roulette, blackjack, and craps tables.
-
At the end of the night, your winning chips will be exchanged for raffle tickets, giving you the chance to win fantastic tombola prizes.
-
A silent auction will also run throughout the evening, featuring exciting items such as a signed Hearts top, a weekend break in North Berwick, and other special treats.
-
A fully stocked bar will be open all night.
🌟 Supporting a Wonderful Cause Proceeds from the evening will go directly to the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People (Sick Kids), Edinburgh and to Currie and Balerno Rotary chosen local charities and good causes.
🎟 Tickets Spaces are limited to just 100 guests, so book early to secure your place. It promises to be a brilliant night out while supporting a truly worthwhile charity.
You need to get in touch with the organisers to book your place, it's not a Shed invitation... email:- curriebalernorotary@gmail.com or call Theresa on 07738 288636
