Hi

Evening all

BALERNO SCHOOL PARTNERSHIP
We'll be at the school tomorrow. I'll let them know the bench is now refurbished and ask if the students want to paint it, or leave it to us. I'll also leave some screws off the finished article so they can have a go at screwing them in...

PERGOLAS
For those of you interested in how to erect the pergolas: It's best to download the PERGOLUX app from either Google play or the Apple App Store and check out the installation video and guide.
One thing I have just noticed is that the ground anchors DO NOT COME WITH THE PRODUCT. We have to buy our own. This makes sense as they don't know the surface that it's being planted in to. They specify 12mm diameter ground anchor bolts and we'll need 12 of them.
John has been busy reviewing the instructions and has now bought the silicone and Torx screwdrivers.
The weather forecast for next week looks promising, so I'm hoping we can get the first pergola up on either Tuesday or Wednesday 26th or 27th May. Start time will be around 0930. Please give your name to John if you want to volunteer.

ST CUTHBERTS CHURCH TOTEM POLE
Shedders will no doubt have seen John dutifully making this rather large pole over the past few weeks. It now transpires it's going to be used as a GRAFFITI pole, where people can sign their names and write comments, so because the pole is made of softwood, it needs a varnished coating to stop any ink or felt tip marker bleeding into the wood grain. John's on top of it though🕺🏼🕺🏼🦺

NEXT SHED OUTING
Our next trip is on 20th June when we'll be attending the Malleny Garden Fayre in Balerno. (see below).

NEXT SHED CANAL CRUISE
The next canal outing is on Friday 17th July starting from Falkirk at 10.30 a.m.

NEXT SHED SEA ANGLING OUTING
The date is confirmed as Thursday 13th August. The captain/skipper will let us know the tide times, but it looks like HIGH TIDE is at 3:24 am with 5.29m and the second high tide of the day is at 3:54 pm with 5.31m. So we may have to choose another day....I suppose it depends on the boat...

SHED BARBEQUE
The barbie was a great success and we just about broke even

SMSA SHED OF THE YEAR AWARD 2026
Applications are wanted for this year's SOTY. Do new want to put ourselves forward??

MURRAYBURN PRIMARY SCHOOL
Emma Dougan is the Depute Head teacher and has contacted me asking for help in making some playground equipment for the pupils. We're meeting with her on Friday 22nd May at 12 noon. Sighthill Loan is closed during pick up times. There is parking on side streets. I'll need a couple of volunteers to meet with her.

MALLENY GARDEN FAYRE
They are looking to finalise plans for their Fayre this year and were hoping we might be able to attend with a view to promoting the work and benefits of the Mens Shed.
They are holding the fayre on Saturday 20th June 2026. 10am – 3pm. and are inviting a variety of local nurseries, associated botanical inspired vendors and local community groups to have a plant focused day. They would be pleased to have us along. This event will take place within the grounds of Malleny Garden during the time when their National Collection of 19th Century shrub roses are in full flower and fragrance. More information about the garden can be found here. Link to their Event page here. (see picture below).
