Hi

Evening all

SHED INSURANCE
The insurance is due for renewal at the start of December. We have settled with Wessex Insurance for 2025/2026 and the premium will be £491.36. One thing I did notice is that for any hot work carried out in the premises (e.g. working the wood lathe where there is a small chance of a spark, TWO fire extinguishers will be required to be adjacent to the work area, with a person on the look out for any smoke/smouldering. I'll bring a copy of the schedule to the shed tomorrow. It will also be on the website.

FIRST AID WORKSHOP
The First Aid Workshop date is the FRIDAY 23rd January at 1030 a.m. It is scheduled to last about 1 and a half hours. As the event approaches, Alex will ask for confirmation of attendance from Shedders.

ST CUTHBERT'S CHURCH AND NINE LESSONS
I mentioned this at coffee time on Monday. Maybe someone could volunteer?? but it's not mandatory.
As the Pentland Men's Shed is a big part of our church life now, I wondered if anyone from The Shed would like to read at our service of NIne Lessons on December 21st at 5pm. I like to invite members of the community to take part and you are certainly part of our community now.
Many thanks.

SHED CHRISTMAS LUNCH
At time of writing there are only 2 places left, so hurry up and book a place.

CHRISTMAS MARKET
After my serious cock-up of mixing dates of the Balerno Farmers Market, we are definitely booked for the Currie Community Centre Fayre on Sunday 30th November.
We have decided not to proceed with the St Cuthbert's Fayre on the 29th.

BALERNO SCHOOL "PARTNERSHIP"
The available trustees are meeting with the school at 11 o'clock tomorrow. So we'll unfortunately miss coffee ☕️

SCOUT HALL SOLAR PANELS
The start date for the build is 19th November. The plinth for the batteries is now complete. Thank you Ali and Jan and all who helped.

MEN'S SHEDS OPEN DAY 2025
We are not having an open day this year, but here's a link for those of you who would like to visit other sheds then. SMSA Shed Open Day 2025

SCOUT HALL BENCH LOCKS
One or two of the locks are broken again. We need to decide on a robust fix because it looks as if people are just pulling REALLY HARD on the bench to lift it rather than looking for a key.

CCTV
We are getting another CCTV camera fixed to the Scout hall facing west along Forth View Terrace. It will allow us to capture images of any intruders jumping the fence to access the shed, container and Floyd's Folly.

DECKING FOR COLLECTION
A local gentleman approached us on Monday to let us know he has a pile of good condition decking for us to collect. It's lying at the garages just along the road in Currievale Drive. I've attached a picture of where the decking is. It will need a team of shedders to carry the timber on their shoulders as they are about 4 metres long.

DANCING SHOES AT THE TRAVERSE THEATRE
Here's the invitation from the Traverse Theatre I mentioned on Monday...
I hope you are well. My name is Sophia and I work at the Traverse Theatre. I am getting in touch because we would like to invite members of your group to our festive show, Dancing Shoes running Thu 4 – Sat 20 December.

Dancing Shoes is a hilarious, 5-star Scottish comedy about three men in recovery: Craig, Jay and Donny. They meet in a support group, form an unexpected bond, and when Donny’s bedroom dance moves go viral, life takes an extraordinary turn.

This could be a great opportunity for communities to come together in a shared experience during the holidays. We are offering community groups, recovery groups and men's sheds a special discount code (DANCE10) for £10 tickets which you are welcome to share with the contacts within your network.

Tickets can be booked through our website or box office (0131 228 1404). If you need more info (accessible seating, etc.), please do not hesitate to get in touch.

All the best,
Sophia
