Hi

Rab is away on his travels so he asked me to write some notes this week on his behalf, so here goes...

Keep keeping it clean!
Just a reminder that we have the two WhatsApp groups - Men's Shed Important, and Pentlands Men's Shed. The first of these is for, well, important stuff, and the second is for things that are (surprise, surprise) less important. Following Rab's comments from last week, it's good to see that the our posts have contained less dubious content that could, if made more widely available, bring the Shed into ill-repute. Thank you - it's much appreciated! If anyone who isn't already a member of either or both of these groups would like to be added, please let me know.

A tale of two fences
There was a WhatsApp conversation this week about the progress being made on the fence along the edge of the patio. Despite Stewart's eyesight suggesting otherwise, Jim assures us that it is all nice and straight, and it will certainly improve the safety and appearance of our outdoor space.

Meanwhile I'm fixing my fence at home because it has been in for almost 25 years and the posts are starting to rot and break. Unfortunately my neighbour is happy to let me do the work of replacing the posts, but at least he is paying a share of the costs of the new posts and concrete.

Opportunity to get more involved in the Shed
I have previously mentioned that I plan to stand down as Secretary of the Shed at our next AGM (due in September). I have been appointed as a Trustee of a pension fund, which needs quite a lot of my attention despite it being unpaid, quite time consuming, and a significant responsibility! We therefore need someone to take on the role of Shed Secretary. This mainly consists of dealing with email correspondence, which isn't a huge burden. Other minor activities also include arranging the AGM, and (unless anyone else wants to get involved), arranging the Shed's insurance. I don't believe you would need to be a long-serving Shedder to do the job, so please have a chat with me if you would be prepared to consider the position and to find out more. I will happily continue to manage the website and help with anything technical, so you don't need to get involved in that side of things unless you want to. Thank you in anticipation.

Website headlines and articles
I try to keep the website current. For example, I put a festive greeting on the front page of the website in December, as well as an item about Mr 2-Sheds and his Christmas snowman decorations. The site currently shows something to advertise our kindling. If you have any suggestions about what we should highlight to future visitors to the site, please let me know your ideas an I'll see what I can do.

I look forward to seeing you on Friday if you are at the Shed, and hope that despite the forecast, this sunny weather continues through the weekend. Have a good one!

Best Regards,

Iain Millar
Secretary
