Hi

Evening all

BALERNO SCHOOL PARTNERSHIP
Always on the lookout for any tool donations. On Wednesday morning we did a tidy up at the Shed and found a couple of pairs of garden shears that I'm taking with me tomorrow. Jim Floyd has already kindly donated three hand forks. Skanska UK are donating sets of overalls for the students to wear while gardening/tidying up.
If you have any surplus gardening kit, please bring it to the Shed. We are also still looking for large, strong, heavy plastic bags to contain the rubbish and weeds we are continually finding. So dog food bags, fertiliser bags, compost bags, they are really useful. The school has basically no money, so anything is helpful.

ANOTHER DONATION TO THE SHED
We have also received another £1000 donation from the Balerno Cares Charity. This was first brought to our attention last Summer/Autumn, when they said they were winding up a charity and would donate funds to us. These things take time due to Charity Compliance Rules.

SACK BARROW WANTED
The Scouts are looking for a sack barrow, so if you have one kicking about and you don't need it, or know someone who has one and wants rid of it, bring it to the Shed. Grant Anderson wants it.

SCOUT SAFE AND NEW GATE
The new gate at the east end of the Scout Hall is nearly complete, and will be a FIRE EXIT route. This means no obstructions. Therefore the large bin will need relocating and the best place for it is at the west end of the Hall, right where the steel safe is currently lying. We will build a bin compound accessible from the street so the contractors have access to the bin, but first we need to remove the safe (or rather, the Scouts need to remove the safe). The large gates will not be affected.

DEFRIBRILLATOR
The defibrillator is now hanging up in the shed. John will bring in a new Eye Wash station and we'll relocate the First Aid kit beside the Defib.

RACKING FOR BATTERY POWERED TOOLS AND CHARGERS
Lyall will bring the DeWalt racking to the shed tomorrow. It will sit on the bench where the red filing cabinet is, and will contain the the tools, batteries and chargers. We can then store the boxes and free up space in the Shed.

WOOD LATHE
The lathe is now with Drapers and is being inspected/repaired under warranty.

BIRD BOXES FOR BEAVER SCOUTS
In hand with Stewart Still and his merry bunch of helpers. He now has suitable wood for construction of the boxes.

BIRD BOXES FOR CAMPBELL PARK
Jonathan has now finished the kestrel and owl boxes. They will go up in the park at the end of the month or early March.

PPE
There are 2 boxes of our completed PPE order in the Shed. I have the original order form with everyone's sizes, so please don't do anything with them until I get to the shed, probably just after coffee break.

ABSENT FRIENDS
As you know, a couple of shedders have not been at the Shed recently due to illness or care issues. Ratho Jim has had a bit of one of his kidneys removed. As if that wasn't bad enough, he was out walking around Ratho Marina, as per doctor's orders in order to recuperate, when he fell down a set of steps and cracked a couple of vertebrae. He ended up back in hospital , but he's out now. He's in a serious bit of pain, but not paralysed, and he's back home. (At least he didn't fall in the canal this time😂).
Keith Gordon is getting carers in four times a day and is still getting his meals pre-cooked fin batches for him at the golf club and delivered to his home. He also has a cleaning lady.
The last we heard from Tony Rigg was that he was in 'rehab' and I'm assuming that was to cure his chocolate biscuit addiction🍫🍰🧁

PENSION AGE DISABILITY PAYMENT
Davy McLuckie asked me to bring the following to everyone's attention. It's only applicable in Scotland and replaces the ATTENDANCE ALLOWANCE. It is NOT Means Tested

Pension Age Disability Payment can give you extra money if you have both:
  • care needs because of a disability or long-term health condition
  • reached State Pension age
Pension Age Disability Payment is replacing Attendance Allowance in Scotland. You do not need to do anything if you already get Attendance Allowance. You cannot get Pension Age Disability Payment and Attendance Allowance at the same time.
It’s paid at 2 different rates, lower and higher. The amount you get depends on your care needs.
Lower rate is £73.90 a week. It’s for people who need help or supervision during the day or night.
Higher rate is£110.40 a week. It’s for people who need help or supervision during the day and night.
Pension Age Disability Payment is not means-tested. Your income and savings are not taken into account. They will not affect any award you might get.

AND FINALLY
I met Scott Lawrence today at the shed when he delivered the PPE. He was cock-a-hoop with the bird box from us, and showed me a video he had taken of a pair of blue tits readying the box for nesting. Good to know we're doing our bit for conservation🐦‍⬛🪾🌳

That's about it for this week folks, so stay safe and warm.

See you all tomorrow.
